I am looking for a little advice and maybe some partners in sales.  If any of you are similar to me in that you only have one product, I am sure that you have run into the big retailers not taking on your product due to not having a complete line of products.  It is almost impossible to get a buyer to look at your product and take it on without something to go along with it, that is why I am here today, I am looking for inventors, startups, or anyone with current products that may want to combine products to create a product line and get the attention of buyers in 2008.  I have moderate sales right now that are fine, however I am looking to triple our sales in 2008.  If you have products that fit into auto/truck accessories, RV aftermarket, marine aftermarket, hardware, lawn&garden, construction industry that are currently being manufactured or sold and you are interested in exploring this option of combining products to create a line, let me know.  I can be contacted @ tmrousey@uslnet.com or here on SUN.  Thanks......Trent

Hey Trent,

I spent some time on your site.  Why aren`t you selling and promoting this product directly.  One of the best ways to get product onto retailers` shelves, even as a single item vendor is to build demand.

There is a common misconception that retailers are going to "sell" products.  They really don`t sell anything, they make things available for sale.  Big difference.  If you start "selling" this product and get some traction, you will get their attention.

Prime example - Zicam,

Originally a 1 item product line only available direct from the supplier. The demand became so great they were able to land premier shelf space everywhere and have gone on to expand their line.

Hi Trent,

We used to have a single gardening product and ran into the same issues.  Here is what we did:

1. Sell to boutique and niche shops that don`t care if you are a single supplier - in fact they prefer that.  At first blush, it looks like your products could be displayed on a simple rotating wire mesh hanger in a small amount of floor space.  Search for truck cap retailers and other such folks.  Get a grip (pun intended) on your current customers.  Are some of them older men that just have to have a pickup truck but can`t reach their cargo?  If so, find shops that they would frequent - you get the picture.

2. Sell direct to consumer on the Web.  You NEED to do this.  This data coupled with your niche sales data is your ammunition to the buyers to convince them that even though you are a single player, you have a fantastic great selling product.

3. Hook up with a manufacturer`s rep.  Be prepared to run into the same argument about a single sku player however.

4. Gather up all your data and go to the buyer with your increasing sales chart.  More and more large retailers are letting go of the old prejudice of only dealing with multiple sku suppliers.  This is due to the fact that they simply rely on you to do almost all of the logistical work yourself.  But there are plenty of companies that can help you with that now - let me know if you can`t find any local ones and I can hook you up with some near me.

Best of luck!
