Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them. There are only three words in the English language. What is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is.

Do you know what it is?

"language."

"The English Language," as in "there are only 3 words in [the following phrase:] `the English language.`

:-) Had to look this up, though, since in the actual language of English, only angry and hungry end in "gry." Random House includes "half-angry" "overangry" and "unagry" as legitimate adjectives, though. Interesting riddle....

Thanks so much Joel! I had a blast!

That darn GRY riddle!

Thank you Craig for that link, and as you and Daniel (frndchps) so kindly provided there was more than one answer to this riddle, I had never realized there were so many variations! Ya learn something new everyday!

I think the reason this book reminded me about this riddle has a lot to do with the underlying theme of FOCUS that I find reflecting back at me often through these chapters.

Not to be so distracted with "nonsense" or the `angry and hungry" and focus on the "meat of things" or "There are three words in the english language" and then determine the actual questions being asked or in this case, "what is the third word?`

It also reminds me of how when I first heard this riddle, in my ambition to be such a "smarty pants" took so fast to the temptation this riddle presents as a trivia question and was so easily distracted by angry and hungry, that i missed the point completely. It wasn`t until a long time after the darn thing sat on my desktop, and only after, half asleep in the midst of a 3am brainstorm, did I actually READ the riddle correctly, and after realizing the answer, felt both silly and enlightened at the same time.

I hope you guys enjoyed it!

Let`s get reading!

Wow this is a loaded chapter!

To start, chapter 7 touches mighty close to home when I think about our SUN Community Projects going on.

Mr. Hill states the steps for developing our "Mastermind Alliance" here:

"(a)

Ally yourself with a group of as many people as you may need for the creation, and carrying out of your plan, or plans for the accumulation of money--making use of the "Master Mind" principle described in a later chapter. (Compliance with this instruction is absolutely essential. Do not neglect it.)

(b)

Before forming your "Master Mind" alliance, decide what advantages, and benefits, you may offer the individual members of your group, in return for their cooperation. No one will

p. 148

work indefinitely without some form of compensation. No intelligent person will either request or expect another to work without adequate compensation, although this may not always be in the form of money.

(c)

Arrange to meet with the members of your "Master Mind" group at least twice a week, and more often if possible, until you have jointly perfected the necessary plan, or plans for the accumulation of money.

(d)

Maintain PERFECT HARMONY between yourself and every member of your "Master Mind" group. If you fail to carry out this instruction to the letter, you may expect to meet with failure. The "Master Mind" principle cannot obtain where PERFECT HARMONY does not prevail.

Keep in mind these facts:--

First.

You are engaged in an undertaking of major importance to you. To be sure of success, you must have plans which are faultless.

Second.

You must have the advantage of the experience, education, native ability and imagination of other minds. This is in harmony with the methods followed by every person who has accumulated a great fortune.

No individual has sufficient experience, education, native ability, and knowledge to insure the accumulation of a great fortune, without the cooperation of other people. Every plan you adopt, in your endeavor to accumulate wealth, should be the joint

p. 149

creation of yourself and every other member of your "Master Mind" group. You may originate your own plans, either in whole or in part, but SEE THAT THOSE PLANS ARE CHECKED, AND APPROVED BY THE MEMBERS OF YOUR "MASTER MIND" ALLIANCE."

For me personally, it has been one of the hardest things to do, overcoming the anxiety of, and trusting something so precious in the hands of strangers. It is  something that I am struggle with still. Sharing the reigns. As i strive to take these lessons from Mr. Hill on this subject, I am hoping that those of you who have achieved this feat, or maybe even mastered the art of sharing could, well, share your perspective.

As we move forward into the area of failure, better known by many as experience, I can see how closely the themes running through this chapter could serve the community efforts. Persistance, thinking and rethinking, scrapping and starting again. Makes sense! So why is it so hard to do? OK, yes, EGO plays a mighty big part, but why is it that we are sometimes so inclined to cut our nose to spite our face? Pushing forward into inevitable failure, stubbornly, all the while knowing that its not quite right, rather than sucking it up, packing it up and re-structuring? if I had a dollar for every time I`ve done that....

Ah, but then Mr. Hill comes out with "A QUITTER NEVER WINS--AND--A WINNER NEVER QUITS." What a contradiction! Quit but don`t quit? Hmmm, like a magician perhaps, it appears as if you quit, closing your doors, and from the outside folks say "man, he worked so hard..she lost so much..." but like that sligh of hand, the fire remains hidden, even if it just looks like smoldering ash to everyone else.

So then I move on to "Planning the Sales of Service", Leadership and attributes of. I have skimmed it once, read it once, and EGO aside, must admit that I have to read it again. It is a whole lot to digest for me.

I am going back to re-read, and i hope that thiose of you reading along, who have digested, or even partially digested (ewwww) this area might chime in with your perspective!

Your thoughts?

BP - I agree, this chapter is loaded with great info. However, I refer back to the title and sub-title of this Chapter and I believe it tells the real importance in few words and simplicity:

ORGANIZED PLANNING: The Crystallization of Desire

The Master Mind philosophy you speak about is important throughout the entire book and Hill`s teachings. But it is not the most important part of this chapter, IMHO. I find keeping the title and sub-title of each chapter forefront in my mind while reading this book helps me absorb the overall essence of the chapter better. And this applies to any chapter in the book and I also use this method while reading other books ... however, many authors are not very good at titleing their chapters, IMHO.

To me, one of the most important sections of this chapter is near the end, called Take Inventory of Yourself. It describes a method of doing an annual self-analysis and provides a series of questions to ask yourself in this yearly review. From experience I highly recommend incorporating this practice into your life - it will make a difference.

Organized Planning is so very important in life and business. Learning to do it well reaps many benenfits.
