It`s about time they had Startup Nation on the Big Idea!

I watch that show regularly and they have the same guests over and over saying the same thing.  Rich`s comments are more down-to-earth and it was good to see it on that show for once.

Rich,

I wanted to say thanks for the advice.  I was Trent from Bloomington, one of the webcam questions that you guy`s fielded during the show and also a sometimes contributor to the forums.  I was so glad to finally get on the show, even though I wasn`t able to mention my product`s name or company name, but oh well.  They tell me that is a stepping stone for appearing on the show.  I will be glad to give them positive feedback on your behalf.  Thanks again, it was great sharing 1 minute of air time with you.  Thanks again,

Hi Rich:

You are a perfect guest for the show. I like how Donny almost always tries to make the show about tips for how-to be successful and love what you do.

I think that one of the most challenging things for an individual inventor to do is to approach companies after they`ve done research about an invention and possibly protected it by filing a provisional patent application or a non-provisional patent.

A little role playing for inventors who want to license their ideas would be great. A good example would be for you to play the company CEO and Donny to play the budding inventor with the next big product idea (maybe a new type of football or other everyday consumer product).

All the best,

Andrew

imagingbuffet, donny is a very talented guy and the team he`s built around him is extremely sharp, which only makes him better on air!

i like your role playing idea.

i have a recommendation for all reading this thread: drop your ideas for The Big Idea in this thread and i`ll refer their producer to the thread to mine good ideas and guests...

sound like a plan?

Rich,

How about a topic on "ideas", that need to first,.. be designed, by someone. You`re "Big Idea" might need someone else to help your dream come true.  How do you go about finding that designer? Will they recommend a manufacturer?  You talked about finding the money you would need.  But, where do you start when you need someone to actually put your idea together? You won`t need the money, if it won`t work.

An example of ideas, that are never carried out.....

I`ve had ideas before, and have never followed through, part of the "Where do I begin reason", held me back. I guess if it was something I  believed I could do, ..I would have.

I know those, that have succeeded with their idea or invention, might not think this way.  But I think, many have been held back, because they do.

Tell us about the beginnings before the successes.  How,....did they proceed from the beginning of their idea.  Inspire us.

On a recent trip, I came up with what I think, is a brilliant idea.  But I know I would need to tell it to the right manufacturer or designer that could create it for me.  Because I don`t know how to make it!

I already did my Google search.:)

I did it immediately after the show aired!

As for show ideas: I`ve always wanted to see how people with ZERO capital, bootstrap (or in my case SEAT OF MY PANTS) their business.

For instance:  I would rather not pay for adwords for Google or Yahoo, it`s not worth it to pay $20/month to be bottom of a list that expires after 5 clicks per day and doesn`t generate a sale, so I promote through press releases.  It has been VERY successful for me.

I want to be able to go from "seat of my pants" to bootstrapping to not having to worry about it anymore.

How to go about making prototypes is another topic I want to tackle because only a few people that were on the show truly were "inventive" in doing it.  (can you tell I`ve been trying to get on this show?)
