Well personally I think you might want to consider the recipient of the award. If it is a parent then maybe money and an day off or two (to spend time with his family) is enough. If its a young professional then a gadget or a dinner in a fancy restaurant will be great.
Yup and I agree with PAssion09, something for the spouse will also add something to morale and enthusiasm.
