Hi guys,

My store, www.DelightfulDaisy.com, is about a year old now, and doing OK but not great.  I designed the site myself using zen cart, although recently I hired someone via scriptlance to redesign the front page to make it look less zen-carty (generic).

My biggest frustration right now is that over half my traffic is still from PPC through google adwords.  My conversion rate is good with adwords, but I'd like more organic traffic.  My second largest source is repeat customers, which makes me happy.  It's the organic traffic that's frustrating me, I really don't get much.  And what I do get comes from Google Products, and only when I have the exact product and the customer happens to type it in verbatim to my product title.

So, I guess what I'm looking for is some SEO feedback primarily, but also site design.  I want to get more hits when people search for Thomas Sabo (my primary product), BIAGI, and Alex & Ani.

I have thick skin and a strong desire to make this store a huge success, so all feedback is welcome.

Thanks,

TJ

Oops, I just realized I never actually said the purpose of my site.  But if it's not obvious, then I'm really in trouble...  Laughing

For one thing, your meta keywords and description are about the same .... the description should be exactly that, a short description of your site/business/products/services, not a rehash of your keywords.

The "alt" tags for your images could be more keyword rich, instead of just a basic title of the picture .... so instead of an alt tag like  " alt="Thomas Sabo Charm Club" ", use something like " alt="Thomas Sabo charms, jewelry, necklaces" ", etc.

I also don't see ( after a quick scan ) any H1/H2 tags within the main page. These are a factor in SEO, so if possible you should have them added.

There is really no text on the main page for search engines to read, so some type of keyword rich content would be good.

Not an all-inclusive list, but a few basics that should be in place.

Thanks Webline.  I will start tonight improving the things you mentioned.  One question, I thought meta tags were not important anymore, is that not the case?

Thanks,

Meta keywords aren't essential like they used to be, but I figure they don't hurt anything if they're included.

The description will be the snippet of text that appears under your link in search results, so making this descriptive and informative in a short amount of time is helpful; many people read these to determine if the site is worth going to. It will obviously be crawled by the search engines, so if possible making it unique for each page is a good idea if it can be done.

Zen Cart can do a good job for your SEO needs. One key point is to think about what you use for the title of each category and each product, becuase those words are used in the meta Tile tag.

For example:

You have a category named "Alan K". Will people do a search for Alan K?

For naming your categories and products, think about using keywords that people will use to find a product like yours and are also your targeted keywords.

The order of the words is also important. For you title tag... put the more important key words first.

For example: you have a product 3MM princess cut CZ Rhodium Bracelet. Better for SEO would be... Cubic Zerconia Bracelet princess cut 3MM.

This also applies to the title tag for you home page. Right now you have "Delightful Daisy, Thomas Sabo Charms | BIAGI Beads | Alex and Ani | Jessica Elliot".  Are any of those words your targeted keywords or search terms people would use to find jewlery?

The first words are "Delightful Daisy"... this is your domain name so it is not important to have in your title tag or at least not first.
