One very good exercise comes out of New Age ideology, where the concept
is that the Universe generates energy and our lives are connected to
that energy. It`s the basis for "The Secret" and countless other books
along those lines.
Anyway, begin with an assumption that the Universe includes a wider
context of who you are and why you`re here, where you`re going, and
what`s your destiny. We won`t get into how that works, why, or what
other aspects of mind are involved. Just stipulate that there`s this
Universe and "it" knows what`s going on. :-)
Take a piece of paper and divide it into 2 columns. On the left, title
it "To Do." On the right, title it "The Universe." (This comes from the
In the To Do side, write down each day only what you now for sure you
can accomplish within the next 48 hours. No longer than that.
In the Universe side, write down everything else you want to do, need
to do, feel you have to do, wish you could do, or believe should happen.
The key here is that you must always write each item in a positive
form. In other words, instead of saying, "I want to get rid of my old
car," say "I want a new car." When you write what you don`t want,
contemplate it and change it to what you do want.
At the top of that column, each day, write in, "I want to know what I want."
What happens is that by limiting your "to do" items to just the next 48
hours, you also hold them down to what your conscious mind can handle.
You remove the lazy Susan of too many things to worry about and occupy
your attention. You list them and forget them....to borrow from Ron
Then you "allow" your wants and desires to float free from any sort of
real limits. They become literally a Wish List. Part of that wish list
is you wish you knew what you want to do, right?
The subconscious is an amazing thing. When you take off the pressure of
"having to" know what you want, and put it into a more friendly
context, you`ll find you begin playing around with all sort of
scenarios. Don`t worry if they`re possible or even realistic. Forget
pragmatism, doable, acceptable, or even understandable in some
instances. Just let your mind roam.
Having that "Universe" list of things that will be taken care of
"somehow," also frees up the subconsciuos mind to "play." You`ll be
surprised at how images begin to show up each day, helping you to
figure out what you like, what you don`t like, what you`d like doing,
and what you`d hate doing. :-)
Give it a shot. You have nothing to lose other than some time.
