I would say recommend three to four books that you feel would help others.

I would recommend:

1. Purple Cow
2. Who Moved My Cheese
3. Good to Great
4. Rich Dad, Poor Dad

"Purple Cow, Brown Nose."
"The Suckup Next Door"
"Ingratiate and Grow Rich"
and, of course, StartUp Nation`s Open for Business.
(Can I cut an affiliate deal with the Sloan Brothers?)

Well. BP hit my favorite - Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. However, I always preface this by saying I think you should first read the 2-volume set that was the basis for TAGR, The Law of Success by Napoleon Hill. Just keep TAGR handy at all times - a nice reference guide.

Same era: How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie. A must to read. Give it to every young person you know (as well as TAGR). Keep a copy handy at all times. Read it at least twice a year.

Some will think this is "corporate" crap - it ain`t. Taking lessons (mistakes) learned from the corporate world and putting them into place in a small business is a great way to ensure your small business does not make the same mistakes. Patrick Lencioni has written several excellent books I highly recommend. You can visit his website at www.tablegroup.com to learn more and signup for his very good newsletter. I recommend all of his books:

  • The Five Temptations of a CEO
  • The Four Obsessions of an Extraordinary Executive (Excellent - R@)
  • The Five Dysfunctions of a Team
  • Death by Meeting
  • Silos, Politics, and Turf Wars

All of Lencioni books are told through a fable format and are easy reads - 2-4 hours at best. The messages are clear and they sink in.

Also recommend:

Blue Ocean Strategy: How to Create Uncontested Market Space and Make Competition Irrelevant by W. Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne

Our Iceberg Is Melting: Changing and Succeeding Under Any Conditions by John Kotter, Holger Rathgeber, Peter Mueller, and Spenser Johnson

The World Is Flat [Updated and Expanded]: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century by Thomas L. Friedman

Be forewarned, the last one is bigger than War and Peace.

Y`know, Nathaniel Branden was Rand`s protégé until they got into a huge fight and she disowned him. Still, he`s a good psychologist with a philosophic  basis.
