   ok, so I intend to write a book, but at the same time I a friend of mines did as well, so long story short, I intended to open a company(one of 2) that would offer a base for other writers to start their own books in the fantasy-fiction relm. Problem is, I`m not quiete sure where to start. Now I know I would have to get the books copywritten and such, but those arent the conpany details itself. Where would I start? I want to form a company, like joeshmoe etertainment,LLC kinda thing, but if I go down that road, where should I start?

I guess it could be considered a publishing company, but I`ve always taken that to mean that I would have to provide the printing for the customer, which isn`t what I would to persay.

 

I intend to provide the customer(in this case writers who want to enter into the fantasy-fiction relm ) with a platform of sorts to get started in the writing world. I intend to provide connections to printers, editors, opinions and such(im not really sure what else you need in the pre-release department) but also I intend to provide a framework to get started by offering a fictional world that myself and several others would create.

 

Thats the general gist of it.

Edit: I should also mention that I`m just learning about copywriting and trademarking, but I am slightly concerned with releasing matetral that hasent been properly protected. For example, I have a prolog to one of the books I intend to use and have read that you can use a porton of the book to get the book copywriten(as long as it gives the intelectual ideas of the book), but now I wonder will that cover only the book, or the character places and people in the book etc. I have tried going on the gov. sites that issue the copywrite papers and such as well as some book pertaining to the legal issues, but I dunt wanna form my own opinions and be wrong. Are there any books that would be sugested, including some in the For dummys range.

JBenray, it seems you are really focused on what could be `wrong` or what `risks` you could encounter. 

 

Can I suggest you focus more on creating and implementing your vision.  The details about copyrights and trademarks usually take care of themselves as necessary.

 

I am launching a creative writing community in October.  It will use a Wiki platform so `member` writers can contribute creatively and editorially to each other work.  The result will be a collaborative fictional work that will be published. 

 

There I just shared a concept that many would be tempted to `protect` or `control`.  The distinction is that I know that what makes my vision unique and guaranteed to succeed, regardless of how many others are out other, is me, my energy, my unique contribution to the vision.

 

Can you see how this perspective may hekp you?

Lets say I finished a preview portion of my book and want to have it edited or reviewed by someone, or a group of people. I give a copy to each person and I don`t have the intelectual copyrights done and someone likes it so much they run w/ it themselves and get it secured under their name before I do, thereby taking my work. Thats something I`m more worried about, especially since I dun`t know much about that information.

This is simple...most editors are willing to agree to abide by your intellectual property rights.  If at the same time you indicate a copyright on your document which indicates a clear intention to protect the content.  Together in the overwhelming majority of the cases your stuff is safe.

 

Any true professional would not want to risk the potential damage that kind of behavior invites.

 

You can also obtain a copyright online very quickly if you like.

 

There is another perspective that is worth considering.  The truth is there is no way for any other writer to actually create your story.  I know it sounds funny but, being a writer, it is true.  Without getting too metaphysical here, the truth is that your story has your energy signature "in it".....sort of like a metaphysical finger print.....it can`t be replicated....

 

You have something, a creation, to share with others.  Share it from a place of abundance and your will experience abundance.  Share from a place of scarcity and your will experience scarcity.
