E-Commerce is the electronic online process of conducting business. It involves Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), E-Mail, Electronic Bulletin Boards and Electronic Funds Transfer. It consists of two categories of commerce that is; Business to Consumer commerce and Business to Business commerce. The advantages of E-Commerce are effective communication and networking, timelessness, multimedia information, Internet marketing, cost reduction, electronic payments and quick feedback from customers.
E-Commerce has led to security breach, fraud, piracy and unauthorized access. P3P and Web Trust provide support for ensuring security. Transaction Processing, Customer Relationship Management and Enterprise Resource Planning are the managing control issues with which an organization has to deal effectively and efficiently. With the introduction of Cryptography, digital signatures and biometrics a new era of E-Commerce is expected in which most of the business transactions will be carried out through electronic media. Privacy, integrity, authentication and non-repudiation ensure successful and secure business transactions.
