Help!  I am a Career Services Specialist attempting to construct a Project Management resume.  I am fairly clueless about the skills that one would obtain through a Project Management curriculum and would like to include those skill sets in the body of the resume template.

Could someone please provide me with 10-12 skills that would typically be acquired through participation through a Project Management curriculum?

Thanks for any assistance you can provide.

A friend of mine who is not in "business for herself", is looking for an occupation in the Project Management field that you mentioned in your post.  Here are her suggestions:

"simple answer. go on monster or careerboard, do a query for the job/specific field of interest and print off the job descriptions.

this will instantly tell you what employers are looking for.

monster has a section of job descriptions that can be printed off too.

for ex: i am looking to work as a proj asst/ analyst.

i go to monster and my key words are project asst, analyst and manager. why manager? you need to know what your boss does and how to support them."

Hope this information is of some help to you.  Hope others post a reply - I want to see what they think.

I am an experienced and successful project manager, and I also have well-developed resume-writing skills - there is a high demand in my office for my resume-writing work on the side.

But I am reluctant to spend time helping out someone who doesn`t post any information on their profile, and who seemingly joins StartupNation to post a thread requesting assistance without providing any assistance to others.

Maybe this isn`t you, but I`ve become jaded by people who have lots of requests from more experienced members, but they don`t seem to do much homework on their own, and want to be spoon-fed the answers without having to do any work themselves.

I don`t understand your connection between a resume for a project manager and a curriculum. Wouldn`t a resume be reflective of job experience more than the curriculum from a course of study?

Thank you for your timely and extremely helpful response.  I will log into Monster and follow the procedure detailed by your friend.

I`m certain that I will find the information needed to assist the students that I am helping with their Project Management resumes.

Have a great Saturday.

Morning Song. Currently I am an estimator for a marketing/fulfillment company. We have a department of project managers / job coordinators. Prior to accepting the position as estimator, I managed this department.

When I placed employment ads for a project manager/coordinator position, I always searched for applicants with the following qualifications:

1. strong ability to communicate well

2. good organization and administrative skills

3. customer service experience was always a plus

4. needed to have a basic understanding of some of the software programs that we used, ie, word, excel, etc.

5. MUST BE Multi-Task Oriented

#1 and #5 were most important in my eyes. In today`s busy world of project managers, they are required to juggle many different projects at one time and depending on the demands of their job and the individual requirements of the company, they must not only be able to deal with a variety of salespersons (with many different approaches to selling and managing their clients), but must also be able to sometimes step up to the plate and deal with a variety of clients directly. Thow in the fact that you can have any number of requests from any numbers of persons coming at you at any given time and some simply crumble. In our company a job didn`t move without the word or instruction of a project manager, they were responsble for overseeing and handling every aspect, internally, of each project they handled.

Hope this helps, let me know if I can help in any other way.
