There are hundreds of sites out there giving away free WordPress Templates that it makes me want to stop trying to sell mine. Is there actually someone who buys a template or not? If so, what kind of template are we talking about?

I use WordPress and love it. I`ve tried a number of the templates that they provide, and they`re all very good. That said, there may still be a market for selling ones that are different. Personally, I wouldn`t pay for any WP templates because I know enough HTML to modify the free templates to fit my needs. I`ve considered helping ministries set up blogs, using the WordPress.com site, and everything free, but simply using my knowledge of setting them up and making small modifications. I would think you could do well with a business like that, for businesses.

Which would people pay more for: the way a car is built and runs, or the color paint it has?

WordPress is a blogging vehicle. How it looks is vaguely interesting, but the content is what matters. If there`s already a flood of ways to make it look, I`m guessing there`s no market anymore or a saturated market.

Craig,

"WordPress. It`s not just for blogging anymore." :)

Seriously, a little over a year ago I spent months writing and re-writing the HTML for a web site, because I didn`t like any of the templates that I could find. And when I finished it, I didn`t really like it. Then a few days later I heard a podcast that mentioned WordPress. That night, within an hour, I had a web site setup and it was far better than the one I had slaved over. It`s very easy to use WordPress to create a general purpose web site.

So, yes, a blog is primarily about content. But for a web site, looks matter a lot. Once more people realize that WordPress is a great way to create a web site, I think the WordPress theme "market" will be even more important.

That said, since WordPress is free and open source, the way most people seem to play in that arena is to submit their themes to WordPress for free, and add their name and link on the bottom of the pages. That can be removed by someone familiar with HTML, but I`ll bet that most people don`t remove it, which is like free advertising for you.

Alright, so how much would you have paid for the template of this Web site you eventually chose? :-)

:) As I said, I know enough HTML to get me by without paying for something like that. I see the point you`re trying to make: most people are perfectly fine with all the free templates. I`m just saying that I`m sure there are people that would pay for some customization.

People who would pay for some customization also would just as likely have paid to develop a web site from scratch.
