I have a question about SEO. When clicking on a product on my website the url will look like this....

http://www.lisascraftiqueboutique.com/store/WsDefault.asp?One=742

It does not include the title of the product in the url as some other e commerce sites do.

An example: http://www.lisascraftiqueboutique.com/store/WsDefault.asp?Blue Floral DistressedCottageChair

My question is this. Does this hurt me with the search engines, not having the product name in the URL?????

Thanks,

Lisa

I think it might be more of a disadvantage to have your name of the product in the URL because if not many people know you or your product, the SEO will be low for that. BUT if you have what your product does like...dog grooming.com that will get more hits due to the nature of the domain name. But if you had something like dansgroomland.com that won't get as many hits.  See what i'm saying? if you check out some of the tutorials on youtube.com/nlprofits you can find out more about not only domain names but also webhosts, etc.

Lisa,

In some cases, Yes it will... There are other factors that I can see right off the bat, that will hurt your SEO efforts.

For example: The coding, plays a big part on your web site, and one of the biggest issues, is that you're on a dynamic web site, meaning it's Database driven. but, what I would advise you is to build a sitemap... that will help your ranking, and you can also use Twitter and facebook to get hits....

Yes it definately does. Having your keywords in your URL will help give you a better ranking over your competition who do not have the keyword in the title.

it doesn't have to be the product name for example if your site is

http://www.myantiagingproducts.com and your product name is lumin and it's an anti aging system you might name your page

http://www.myantiagingproducts.com/Anti-Aging-System

There's some good articles at SEO Link Juice on this.

It does not have a negative effect but you can say that it would have been better if your product name / Keyword appears in the URL.
