Hi All,

We are looking for someone to help us organize our product design and development. If you are or know of any product design/development professionals that would not mind offering advice and guidance it would be greatly appreciated. We want to be certain that we go through this process correctly and do not recreate the wheel.

Thanks and God Bless,

Tyra

Hi Tyra,

Can you give a bit of detail on your product and at what stage you are at?

Hi Innovator7,

Thanks much first off!

As for my motivation, I had an engineer turned salesman working for me who was in grave danger of losing his job due to terrible performance.  I inherited the guy who moved here from several hours away - he had a wife that quit her job to come here and a little 3-year old boy.

He was putting me in a position I hate - firing people who try hard but just can`t perform (I have no problem firing deadbeats!).  At any rate, I decided to give it all I had to train him in sales and shift him away from his hard-core engineering mentality.

This effort results in a long series of articles that I wrote for him - a series of lessons if you will.  I ended up putting in a few hundred hours of my personal time developing these and wanted to use them for more than just one person, so I`ve been taking snippets out for the blog.

If it takes off, I might consider bundling them up in a saleable package, or possibly add advertisements to the site.  I`ve never monetized a site like this before, so I haven`t really made any decisions - although I am getting great feedback with really no marketing efforts yet.  Google seems to like me.

So my motivation started off trying to help a fellow engineer save his job (which it did), and morphed into sharing knowledge with the world and might morph into some sort of monetization opportunity - but I really would have to work on that.

I do sales, business, and engineering consulting on the side, mainly for smaller companies because that`s where my passion rests.

I`ve been so busy, I haven`t even posted a "Hello World" post here, or asked for an official review of the site - that will be coming I`m sure.

Any further insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the interest!

Hi,
We will be offering unique Christian inspired products. Some of the products we will be reselling. However, we want to create our own exclusive line. We want to plan correctly for how many products we should offer per target market, etc. We have some products already in mind (both already manufactured & based on our exclusive designs) that we would like to print special scriptures and messages on. Of course we have been doing our research, but welcome any help in the best way to go about creating a brand and not what appears to be "promotional" items.

God Bless,
Tyra

Hi Tyra,

Congrats on moving forward with your invention, and it sounds like your already off to a decent start.

"We are looking for someone to help us organize our product design and development. If you are or know of any product design/development professionals that would not mind offering advice and guidance it would be greatly appreciated."

What type of guidance were you looking for?  With your post directly above mine, it sounds like your more looking for plan to begin developing MORE products on a projected basis.  Meaning, a sales projection and development schedule based on those projections?

Also, with branding, "non-promotional" is a bit vague, could you clarify this?

We offer complete product design and branding services, though we are not involved in the marketing or promotional aspect of the invention phase (we are not a promotion company).  Feel free to check out our services, and I`ll keep an eye on this thread to see if I can be of more service.

Hi DesignMyIdea,

Thanks for your response. We are looking to identify certain items that we can place our messages on. So for instance, we need assistance in identify which products are best for our target market and then find out the best way to roll out these products. While we want to create manufacture gifts that are exclusive to our brand, we`re thinking that they do not have to be our first product offering. But rather, we can offer our exclusive products along with a strategic marketing plan, at a later date once we have done the initial company launch.
When I mentioned not have traditional promotional products, I`m referring to items that are sold on sites like cafepress.com & zazzle.com. As you know you can have your own business linked to these sites and if we could just turn over production to a company like this it would be great. However, we need more. We want a company to handle our production, but before we do this, we need to find the best method to get products that we can customize. Please let me know if this is clear.

Thanks for your help & God Bless,

Tyra

Hi Tyra,

Thank you for the clarification.  This sounds like you need a good deal of market research, mainly finding what sort of products consumers would respond to with your branding scheme.  With "messages" I am assuming you are using your own trademarked material?  It is possible to then license out the trademark for companies; perhaps a promotional Easter or Christmas special for company logo`d mugs, pens, etc?

With this research it would take a lot of leg work on your part; gathering numerous targeted emails which you can then send out free surveys that you design, presenting the branding scheme and logo`s to potential companies that would use these as promotional items, or creating prototype samples with your branding / copyrighted materials on them and garnering feedback through low-volume sales, or giveaways and booths.

We can provide the branding scheme and logo design, as well as a small brochure webpage, or a complex e-Commerce website, but as far as the research for marketing, we do not handle that end.  You would be wanting to find a marketing feasibility research firm if you decide to contract out this marketing research.

Good luck!
