I run into the same issue quite a bit in Safari with quite a few sites as well as this one - so much so that I`ve switched the Firefox. Although the Startupnation team is very attentive to any issues I`ve ever seen brought up, the rest of the webs` developers have weak Safari support for a few reasons (if they`re windows users, forget about it) and quite frankly, Safari renders things funny compared to Firefox and I.E.
I switched to Firefox, and my issues were all gone. However, I miss the cool brushed interface - well, I did until I found this little trick. Please forgive me, as I don`t know your level of tech skill and going step-by-step will help others if they read the thread.
Download Firefox if you haven`t already at
http://www.getfirefox.com and install it (it`ll take no time on your mac).
Then, go to
http://takebacktheweb.org/ and download the "GrApple Brushed" theme (you`re going to have scroll down the page a bit) by clicking the "install now" link.
It may give you a dialog box to the effect of "are you sure?" and say yes. Go to the "Tools" menu in Firefox, select "Themes" and click on "GrApple" which will now be there and "Use Theme." Restart Firefox (nice thing about macs - don`t need to restart the machine) and voila - Firefox looks and feels like Safari
