 Hello... I am starting a cleaning business, single family and small business, and I am having a hard time with my price list. I have an idea of what I would like to charge, however, I would like to be fair to my clients, as well as to myself. Responses have been literally ½ and ½. Some say comparable and the other half asks “wow, is that all.”

Are you covering your costs and making a little for yourself at the present price point?  If so then you might want to stay where you are for right now to build your customer base.  By your 50/50 responses it`s obvious that you are not overcharging.  Supply and demand will tell you how on target you are.  At your current rate,when you start to get too busy, you`ll know it`s time to raise your prices.

Remember too, that you can control your amount of business with the price. If you`re not working much, keep the price where it is. But if you suddenly discover you`ve got a flood of business and have to hire on some help, raise the price.

It probably depends on where you live.  I know a lady who charges $17 an hour with a 3-hour minimum.  We`re in the Cleveland, OH area.  That seems pretty reasonable to me.

In areas where the cost of living is higher, you`ll probably need to charge more.

Hello,
Please don`t underprice your services.  You are in business to make a profit.  You should draw a paycheck each week from your business, and your business should also make money.   It`s better to get $50 from one customer than $25 from two.  In other words low pricing may allow you to get more customers, however you can make the same money for half the work.
