The Situation:

I`ve got a new directory for bloggers.  It`s ready to go, a few (3) people have added their blogs to it... so it is working.  I`m sure it could be tweaked and improved endlessly, but I don`t think that will make or break things except as it relates to getting people into the directory.  Directory features:

  • It is an English only directory serving North America.
  • Bloggers can add their blog to the directory immediately at no cost.
  • Rankings are adjusted based on quality as measured by inbound traffic levels.
  • The directory will help highlight and build local blogging communities.

So, in summary, I`ve got a free service for bloggers that nobody knows about yet.

The Question(s):

Would it be worthwhile for me to issue some type of press release through some of the online providers?  Are it`s features interesting enough to do this, given there are plenty of existing directories?  Does anyone here provide this service?  Can it be done on my shoestring budget?

If you would be interested in hearing about your service in a Press Releas, then it is worthy of a Press Release. That is my philosophy. Try these for free Press Releases.

I also use PRWeb for press release distribution.  Both PRWeb and PRLeap provide press release templates and other valuable resources on their web sites.

An updated article of mine, The Power of the Press (Release), just went live on the CreativeLatitude.com site today.  It might provide you with some helpful information.

Thanks Kim!

I`ve been involved with CreativeLatitude since its inception in 2002.  It`s been an incredible experience interacting with designers, and other "creative types,"  from around the world.  In fact, just last month I met up in person with some of the originators of the site - from Thailand, Ohio, Atlanta, and L.A. - for the first time.  We had a fantastic long weekend in Seattle - and it was if we`d been "real world" friends since we all first "met" online back in 1998.

Have a great evening - J.

Okay, thanks for all the feedback everyone.  I went ahead and belted out a draft press release this morning... and have someone lined up to give it a review and provide some feedback.

Funny how putting together the release makes me go and do some fixes and adjustments to the site it references before I`m willing to issue it.

I personally believe that you site success and future will depend on your PR success.  Sites such as google, myspace etc never did traditional advertising but they are always writing press releases and talking with the press.  You should probably release daily press release with information about new blogs that have joined etc.

Good Luck,
