There seems to be this problem with arguments and ramblers.  I think the same decrease in participation happens when someone railroads the thread by changing the subject. 

  You hit the nail on the head, letutor! That was pretty much the point I was trying to make...the ramblers and the argumentative decrease participation. 

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

I hope more people will be active in keeping these forums free of unproductive chit chat and personality conflicts and get back to focusing on advice, ideas, encouragement and helping each other grow and learn.
