Hey everyone, check out my site:

Ianandersonoliver.com

I built this site as a creative portfolio to show my skills to potential employers in advertising. The goal of the site is to quickly and efficiently show CDs and potential freelance clients what I am capable of from a strategic, technical and artistic portfolio. Let me know what you think of the site, the work and the overall user experience.

Thanks!

-Ian

Ian,

Your site http://www.ianandersonoliver.com does not display properly with IE8.

The background image appears and the flash portion is display BELOW the background image... so the viewer needs to scroll down to see the page.

all flash site... ugh... no thanks... and the sound affect are a tad annoying.

Also, i don't get how poker relates to advertising/marketing? are you saying that marketing and advertising is a risk? Gamble with your business by hiring me? a bit facetious i know, but still, what are you getting across

on the inner pages the spades should be next and previous buttons if you're going to go with the poker theme.

As a prospect, it looks like I landed on the wrong freaking website. And when I land on the wrong website, guess what happens next? I hit the back button or 'x' off completely.

This is where the creative types screw it all up... I think the design is a great one and truly shows your talents, but your prospects need to immediately know they've arrived to the right place and this design doesn't allow that to happen.

At the end of the day, people are all the same, and what they want is the information they need to make an informed decision about using your products/services.

Get back to the basics:

1) users want to be in total control (or at least allow them to think they're in control)

2) they want a site they can easily navigate without having to figure out where to go

3) some probably would be irritated by the sound effects; because you like it and think it's cool doesn't mean they like it or want to be bothered with it.

4) flash isn't all that great on mobile devices/smart phones, which many people are starting to search/browse with

I could go on and on... but u get the point.
