Hi All,

I've had my website since 2006 and sales are still pretty slow despite the fact my traffic is up a bit. Traffic isn't where I want it to be thoough. I sell vintage items, crafts and shabby chic style decor. Since sales are slow I am left wondering if it is just me, my products or perhaps something is wrong with the site. I am thinking about making some changes but wanted to stop by here first.

Thanks

Hi

I am not able to get to the site as of 4/19/2010 - 8:15am. Please check and see whats going on. You gotta keep the site up and running or alteast display site maintenance message if you aer doing something to avoid losing traffic.

My site was down for almost three days due to a severe server meltdown. It is back up and running again. Please take a gander at it.

Lisa,

Though you are selling vintage items, your website needs to be updated to today's standards.

Your website is very dated and that could be one of the major reasons why people are not sticking around. There's no call to action on your homepage and your font type and colors are really hard to read.

These are just some of my few pointers, but there's so much more that can be done to improve your website sales.

I would agree with the previous review. The overall design and colors need to be changed.

Also, You could benefit from a good navigation menu to try and organize some of the information (and limit the links on the left hand side) of your website.

I would also say that it would be problematic to make your visitors scroll down so much on your website. Everything should be relatively well structured so as to not make people waste time scrolling and looking around for information.

thx.

Thankyou,

I am not sure what you mean by my site being "dated" and what it should look like. I use DIY etsores and my templates to choose from are all similar. I am not sure how to fix the scrolling down issue or if I can. What is the alternative to scrolling down? I will change the font.

Lisa,

By "dated" I'm saying that it looks like the website design looks like it's from the 90's. It's difficult to achieve what you're looking for when you're selecting from limited styles of templates.

As for scrolling down, I'm sure the other user is referring to the length of the page. People online don't have a long attention span, so scrolling down for too long will make them loose interest in whatever they're searching for.

I did a quick search to find some sites to be a better example of what your website could be (more up to date).

• http://www.rosecottagechic.com this one has a great look, but has the same issue of scrolling.

• http://www.laylagrayce.com this one is ideal if you can hire a website designer. Note how easy it is to navigate the website and find what you're looking for.

• http://www.shabbyblogs.com - this is a blog that I happen to come across, it has lots of free goodies that you will love. Their blog look is also up to date and pleasing to look at.

Hope this help. You can contact me for more help via my website (see below) if you'd like.

Thankyou,

I've changed the text which has shortened up the page and made it easier to read. I know I can change the layout but I have to find a template or designer that can make a template that is compatible with Diyestores. I am looking into it.

I am familiar with those other websites and will consider theirs as well in my final design.

Here is my analysis of your page:

  Page Title is too long

The maximum recommended length for page titles is 70 characters, your current page title is 102 characters.

Meta Description is too long

Your meta description should be no more than 150 characters, your current meta description is 224 characters.

Font Tags Found in HTML.

I found some HTML <font> font tags on this page. While this is not a critical issue, you should use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to separate your website's content from its appearance.

 Heading Summary

Similar to how newspapers and magazines use headings and sub-headings to help readers, websites can use special tags in their HTML. These tags not only help human readers read the content, they also help search engine spiders better understand the content on a page and what is most important. It is generally a good idea to use heading tags to help signal to the search engines, what the web page is about.

No Headings Found

 Image Summary

Images are a great way to enhance a website from a user's perspective. However, it is important to note that search engine crawlers cannot really "see" images. So, if you have lots of images that contain textual content within the image itself, this content will not be seen by the crawlers.

HTML helps address this issue by providing a way to specify the textual content for an image using the "alt" attribute. The alt attribute allows web pages to assign specific text as the "alternative" content for images for those that cannot view the images themselves. This can be search engine crawlers or text-only web browsers.

Total images found: 7 , 2 image(s) don't have ALT text.

Permanent Redirect Not Found

Search engines may think lisascraftiqueboutique.com and www.lisascraftiqueboutique.com are two different sites. You should set up a permanent redirect (technically called a "301 redirect") between these sites. Once you do that, you will get full search engine credit for your work on these sites.

Yahoo! Directory : No Entry Found

lisascraftiqueboutique is not listed in the Yahoo! Directory

Thankyou for your input.

I am familiar with website grader. My server does not support 301 redirects and I am working on the other items. I have applied a number of times to be listed in the Yahoo directory. I understand meta description and tags and all of that are important for SEO but does not explain why those customers who are finding my website are not sticking around or making purchases. I am trying to fix that as well.
