Hello.  I have just launched bizium.com, a site that lets users create their own eCommerce site for free.  All constructive criticism on the site`s features, design or performance will be greatly appreciated!

Brief overview of the site: A checklist guides users through the process of uploading images, setting prices, selecting a home page layout, etc.  A shopping cart and payment processing (via PayPal) are built in.  The result is a site with a url like mystore.bizium.com.  Sites with up to 10 products are free.  (If people are interested, I would be happy to post information about our business model, assuming that`s not a violation of the rules or spirit of this forum.)

As an example, here is the url of a live site created with the site builder: lilihats.bizium.com

Thanks in advance.  (Of course, fee free to create a site yourself.)

I don`t know much except how to ROAST KILLER COFFEE, and build a super FAST PC. But I`m  Addicted to the net and building my business.  Peter I looked at you site and poked around a bit.  On appearance the fit and finish is really good.  I`ll be trying out your site and provide further feedback as I use it.   BRAVO!

Interesting site, but how will you make money from it? I see you charge no commission or fees on sales.

Craig,
We make money (or intend to!) in a few ways:

1) Users can maintain 10 products for free.  If they want to display more, they must upgrade to a premium plan. For example, 50 products is $5.95 per month.
2) Users can pay to display their products as a "featured product" in a category. The product then displays at the top of the Bizium Marketplace`s category page for whatever number of days the user paid for.
3) At the top of a site`s home page, we display a small section with Google ads.  If a site visitor clicks on an ad, we receive a few cents.

We expect that the majority of our users will use only the free options, and those that use the premium services will provide our revenue.

If you would like to comment on this business model, I`d love to hear your thoughts.  Thanks.

Peter

To an un-informed ecommerce person, the site does not explain too much. Why use your service rather than an alternative?

One issue to get over is the domain name.... mystore.bizum.com. There are advantages of have your own domain name versus a sub-domain of .bizum.com. So, you might want to address that.

Also, I`m assuming the ecommerce site is not portable - that is, it can not be moved to another domain or host??

Ok, I build a store with bizum... how does it get promoted? Seen/indexed by search engines? What SEO features does it have?

Oh Damn, It looks simple, and I could just LINK my shopping cart to it.  Do you really think that anyone cares if the shopping cart redirects?  Talk about "other alts" well mention some that offer a better solution.  Some of us have other things to do thank GEEK out........  Also YOUR OWN WEBSITE SHOULD DRIVE CLICKS.   Not the shopping cart page.  Duh, I`m sure some of you might have a " better solution" but I happen to actually have real life products to sell and not just virtual opinions.......  My $.02

The only problem I have with it is that Buy-it, Sell-it does the same. They too offer X products free, then an upgrade. They too are an eBay alternative.

However; as the site got some legs, people got involved, the owner decided to affiliate with eBay. That was *precisely* why so many people left eBay and chose BISI. Now, with the connection to eBay and all the advertising and search connections, they`ve just managed to piss everyone off, and make previous eBay sellers that much more suspicious.
