Cool note on backlinks, Tawnya! I bookmarked it! :-) I like reading these Web critiques, and enjoy tossing in my two cents as well, because I`m starting to get a feel about what makes a good site. It`s about as complicated as what makes a good band, or a good party!

Tawnya,

Thanks so much for all your advise, information and suggestions.  I am researching backlinks, which is new to me.  Your website is filled with great information.  We have already made several of the changes you suggested.  Another question, if you please, you said to set the table width to 100%.  My partner, designer of the site, taught himself html and designed the site with no knowledge going in.  Is there an easy way you can tell me how to check the width, that seems to be a real issue.  After checking, it looks like it is set to 100%.

I`m glad you like the blue and red.   The logo at this point is more a place saver, we are "playing" with it.

Thank you again for taking the time, I appreciate it very much!

Vicki

SnoMon,

Yes, too bad about the Tigers........

The software package has that feature built in.  I do have a question for you about the pay-per-click advertising for lingerie sites.  I face a whole different problem than someone selling TV`s, as you probably know.  Seems like I`m paying for too many clicks from browsers looking for pictures of women in lingerie. In your opinion, is pay-per-click a bad idea?  Any insight on that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Vicki

Vicki,

I`m not a coder but if your page was built within a table, you can set that table width to 100%.  Maybe one of the webdevelopers here can help out and provide more details how to do this.

I don`t now about other packages, I`m not a Web designer, and use Nvu as my editor. However, it`s a WYSIWYG editor, and when you click to add a table, you`re given two options. You either can leave the default to 100% of the viewing monitor, or set a specific pixel width.

I do know about computers, though. HTML is plain ASCII text so it can be sent over the Internet independent of any platform and operating system. The browser on someone`s computer is actually an application. It has, built into it, features and capabilities. Those capabilities allow it to "interpret" the ASCII text and produce a visible result on a monitor.

The 100% feature means that browser gets the hardware information for the person`s computer. If the monitor is 14", 17", 19" that information is held on the computer. If it`s an LCD panel or CRT (cathode ray tube) that too is stored. From there, the browser formats the width of the table so that it goes end-to-end only within the viewable area of the person`s monitor.

To set your table to 100% means that whether someone is seeing your Web page on a 19" LCD or a 13" tube-type (CRT) monitor, the page will be reformatted correctly to show the entire table.

I see where you`re coming from.  However, I don`t think PPC is a bad idea.  The trick with PPC is carefully crafted ad copy, appropriate landing pages, and tracking, tracking, tracking!

Also, as with any search marketing, keywords are important.

Are you tracking click-thru-rates, and conversion percentages?  Do you know which terms seem to be the most popular for people just looking for lingerie pics?

SnoMon is right on the ball with what he says about PPC.  It can bring valuable clicks to your website that will convert if you are using the right keyword phrases.  You may try using negative keywords too within your group ad if you are getting to many people just looking for sexy pictures like:

-jpg
-jpeg
-gif
-pic
-picture
-image

People search for just pics may also be using those keywords while searching and this would block those queries.

Tawnya,

I`ve never heard of negative keywords, can you explain?  How do you block them?  So far, I`ve been very careful not to use keywords such as lingerie pics or women in lingerie.  Are you telling me to use those words?  How do you block .jpeg and .gif. ?

Thanks.

Vicki

You can put negative (-) keywords into your keyword list in Google Adwords too to weed out things like:

sexy picture
lingerie jpg
lingerie pics

If you think the way a person who is trying to hunt down nakid pictures of women is thinking, they most likely would type in phrases like above.  By making those keywords negative (-picture, -jpg or -pic), then your ad won`t show up for keyword phrases like above.  It would show up for "red lingerie" which someone wanting to buy lingerie may be searching for but not "lingerie pics" which someone looking for pics of women in lingerie would be searching for.

Hi Vicky.

Looked at your site and thought it was great. Wish I could fit into Vicki`s Drawers.

Did you do all of the text yourself? I found it clever. I checked out the shopping cart that is listed on the bottom of your page. What package did you use? How much do you do yourself? Are you happy with the results?

Do you have your products drop shipped or do you warehouse them and ship from your own location? Do you have an actual storefront?

I guess I have a lot of questions but am just getting started myself. Good luck to you.

Deb
