Hi everyone, I just purchased The Work From Home Pro.  At the moment I am pretty happy with it, but I want it to be much more.  I hope it will be a resource for all work from home professionals, both freelancers and telecommuters.  I would like your honest critique on design and content, as well as suggestions as to what type of content would be most helpful.
Do you think a forum for professional work from home opportunities could be successful with this site? (I`m not talking get paid to click here!)

Give it to me, good and bad.

Thanks!

JenB

CFOtoGo,

I think the content is good, but the over all design is a bit boring. The blogs that really hit me and captivate me have an energy in appearance as well as content. Try using a white background with a more creative banner (perhaps images of WAH people juggling "life" and work). Also use real to life photos in your posts - example: working in your pajamas would be cool with a person in pj`s and bunny slippers sitting at a laptop, you know stuff like that.

I hope this helps.

I guess I`m echoing JenB---I`m not really sure what`s the point of this, other than it`s a blog? If so, it could use some of that pizazz, Jen remarked upon. Perhaps more of an issue is that people who work from home pretty much know about working from home. :-) So that`s not going to be an easy niche to connect with.

On the other hand, there`s a massive tidal wave coming from the horizon of a storm-tossed economy, and that`s the people who increasingly are worried about getting out of the corporate employee world. They`re looking for a way to work at home or start a business, and that number is only going to grow exponentially.

You might consider changing the overall theme (and tone) of the blog to discussing something related to those folks. It could be along the lines of how to transition from being an employee to being an independent contractor, or starting a business, and so forth. You would want to become more of a "hub," directing people to resources like SuN, elance.com, and the myriad of other locations and written content.

It`s good to see something not hawking the usual work from home ads. It feels like a "textbook vivisection" or a "living textbook" about working from home. Very good, useful information for those of us who accidentally find out that what we do for a living has a name and a lifestyle to go with it. Please keep on going toward helping people define and affirm themselves. Chances are their neighbors, friends, former coworkers, and spouses may be a little negative. Tell them how to answer the question, "why don`t you get a REAL job?" Content. Content. There is so much potential for content with real honest meat: whitepapers, downloadable plans, good desk stretches and hillarious cartoons (to cut the sorrow of the loneliness of working this way). Please punch up the visual format to make whatever the seeker wants immediately easy to find and a joy to encounter. I really would laugh my head off to see an article on "work at home fashion". Your blog has star quality written all over it. Keep encouraged!

Here`s a topic for eBizNewbie, on "Why don`t you get a REAL job?" :-)

The answer should be, "Why would I want a job when I can create a career and lifestyle?"

A "job" is when you work for someone else, your salary and needs are all dependent on someone else, and your life is pretty much controlled by someone else. That`s a real job, and it`s why there`s so much agreement that it really sucks.

Running one`s own business is where YOU go out and hire people who only have enough imagination to get a real job...that`s about it.

Thanks everyone! That is some great input.
Jen and Craig.. I`ll work on giving it some pizazz.  I can certainly find some pictures. (and I think I`ll be on the look out for a pajama pic with bunnies!).
Craig I like the idea of being a hub, I have been thinking in that direction.
But I do think a funny piece on work from home fashion has some potential!
Now back to work... (at 10pm!)

You might think of the "hub" as an electronic newspaper---not a news"letter" but a full-blown newspaper. You would have headlines, pertinent stories about other businesses, news, and then your editorials and columns. That`s where you could (and should) put in the humor, stories, and so forth.

There isn`t any newspaper I can think of at the moment, completely targeted toward work-at-home business owners.
