Hello board;

This is an excellent forum and invaluable service.

Please take a look at my website. I am interested in any ideas regarding traffic building, Blogs and RSS. The site is datafeed driven in lei of content and indexes very well in the major search engines but I want to offer more to my visitors.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Best regards;

Paul

Hi Paul, welcome to the community :-)
I`m assuming the site you`re referring to is Bigscape.com? If so, it sure could use a landing page with some personal sales discussion. Someone spoke about various articles in relation to how people don`t ordinarily feel as comfortable viewing a site where they have no idea who are the people behind that site.

It worked well, though, if that`s the right site. Prices are out of my range, but not unrealistic from what I saw.

Well here`s my humble two cents... in reply to Taylor`s comments also.

I wouldn`t have know it was an "affiliate" site, until I clicked on the coupon...and then I would have been confused... when I was taken to a new site.

I didn`t try to order, so I don`t know... but can`t you just do it from your site...and not lead the viewer off of your pages?

If you can... my comment, as a novice viewer... would be "why does the company say they frame and then not offer framing (at least on the 5 or 6 that I clicked on).

Not that you are probably going to do this... but if it was my business... I would offer much much less and then make it a much much more appealing site... in terms of it not looking like just a cheap catalog and instead making it look like it was ran by people who had some interest in visuals...and article or two, some recommendations, some niching of some sort.

But maybe it is just a numbers game, if you rank high in the search engines...and you don`t want to invest in all of that..

2 cents,
Sandra

Also in response to Taylor, it looks like Paul stated pretty clearly that the site is a datafeed; just because it`s an affiliate-driven site doesn`t necessarily make it worthless.  I don`t see a lot of value to it at present, since there`s no content other than art.com listings, but that doesn`t mean it couldn`t have more.

There seems to be a lot of opportunity to transition from an affiliate-only site to one that both offers affiliate listings and some inherent value as well.  Rather not discount Paul`s request out of hand, and instead perhaps offer some design and feature ideas that he might be able to use.

My .02. You`d do well to give the site some "personality" if you know what I mean. Right now, it just looks like another template site. It feels very sterile and non-personal. Of course, this is coming from a designer, so I always like to see some real character in websites, beginning with the visuals.

Good luck with your site.

I guess you got the feedback you wanted. Wow! At least, you know what to do to change it in sight of a consumer.

Thank you all for the excellent feedback I agree with 97.5%. My site is brand new and as I mentioned "I want to offer more to my visitors." A content landing page with homemade art specific articles and RSS feeds is my next step.

It is nice to get "professional constructive criticism" that offers value to the requester and the rest of the board. Perhaps Taylor should swallow a "humble pill" and not come off like a 16 year old know it all...It helps no one...

Thank you all again for the great responses.

When I clicked the buy link, it took me to the Art.com home page. You want it to take you to the shopping cart or at least the product page if you actually want to get conversions.

You might want to add AdWords or Yahoo network ads. To the extent you have traffic, it`s another source of revenue.

You can replace the searchbox with a Google AdSense search box. You get your cut on people clicking out on the ads, which adds a bit more.

If this is really ranking well in the SERPs you might want to dump this site and focus on providing SEO services instead. It`s really hard to get new generic datafeed sites with a pagerank of zero to rank these days. If you have it ranking well, you are an SEO genius and should focus on that.

In terms of affiliate sites, I have a similar stupid poster datafeed site I set up in about half an hour a couple of years ago. The November commissions were a bit over $200. If you have enough affiliate sites and they each do ok, it can add up to at least cover your Starbucks bill.

Hi there - ok I went to bigscape.com and as much as I just love art of all kinds, couldn`t really get into it.  For one thing, I think you need some kind of a header that makes this look more like a website - right now it kind of looks like a landing page....but take the key words Online print and poster seller provides framing, mounting and laminating services, posters, art prints, paintings, canvas prints, vintage original posters, fine art prints, inspirational posters, giclee prints, art reproductions, more.

Bigscape.com proudly offers unique posters, framed print art with Art.com discount codes. Ultra competitive pricing on poster and prints! From world culture to video game art, Bigscape.com offers it all!

and make that in bigger font, with a collage of pictures perhaps.

I think if you told people what exactly you were selling, you`d have a fantastic site. Your pictures are great, they loaded quickly and your prices are brilliant..i may go back and check out your maps :-) good luck!!!
