Hi,

My name is Nicole and I'm not sure if I am posting in the correct forum, but here is my question.

I am an indie crafter and owner of Journal Junky.  I design and create journals that are unique, fun, and eco-friendly.

My business is too small to hire sales reps, and I establish new wholesale accounts by cold-calling, or by simply just being "found."

Journal Junky products can be found online and in 7 stores across the country, but my goal is to have Journal Junky representation in at least one store in every state in the USA.

I have a giant list of potential stationery and gift stores, and thought that I would email them first instead of calling, asking them to consider my product line.

Can anyone share advice on the pros and cons of calling versus sending an email to potential wholesale customers or store owners?

I appreciate your time!

Love your journals!!

Just walk right in those stores girl,(or pick up the phone) bring your journals "with you" and be prepared to make a deal. (or fight for one, or accept rejection..it's all part of it)

How many can you make? Is it just you making them? (scale?)

Your journals are bright & original! I especially love these: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=mt&listing_id=33178055

Keep making beautiful things!

Hi beautifulpetunia,

Thank you so much for visiting my site and for your complements! They are encouraging.  I love the idea of taking my journals in and talking to the manager or owner of a shop...but I can't do this outside of my state unless I'm traveling.

Maybe I can send samples? Hmmm that can get expensive.  When I do make calls, I always get a run-around and I don't receive calls back. It's a really tedious process. But I'll keep trying.  (I really believe I have something to share with other business owners and their customers!)

I can make up to 300 journals in a month.  All of the journals feel my touch before they are placed in my customer's care.  I work alone.  Creating is the best part of my business (all of this selling stuff isn't so much!) I do have a helper if times get really rough but it's pretty slow and steady for the most part.

ps. I love your concept! I'll have to look at your website in more detail.

Thank you again!
