Purpose:
MoontownCafé is an interactive community of poets, writers, and publishers. MoontownCafé was started in an attempt to satisfy writers’ desire to become published. Our forums and blog space are great for the writer who wants to workshop their writing. With our editing and interactive web tools, users find this a fun and easy way to revise and grow as a writer. We have a wide array of poetry and prose forums that pertain to the individual member’s taste. Some of the unique benifits on MoontownCafe.com include:
- Free poetry forums for all styles of writing.
- Free Blog Area for all members.
- Users can read, critique, and rank poems on a 5-Star basis.
- Poetry Chat Room.
- Members can create a Poetry Group with other members to make communicating and sharing poetry easier.
- One of a kind Point System, allows users to gain points for reading and critiquing poetry; while losing points for posting their own poetry. This forces users to read other people`s poetry on the site while eliminating over-posting.
- Send to friend button (users earn points when they use this)
- Premier Membership Area allows users to read and write poetry that may not be suitable for all audiences. Users can purchase this with money or use their MoonTown points.
- When someone comments on your work, you can elect to get an email alert.

The other main purpose for the site (one that we have not been very successful at) is making money. Here`s what we do on that front:
- Banner ads (Yahoo! Publisher Network, Casale Media, Valueclick Media)
- Email marketing. We have 10,500 subscribers and we have on occasion sold ad space for our newsletter.
- Yearly book published from work on the site
- Direct advertisers. A few sites have paid us directly for ad space.
- Premium membership. Users can pay for access to Premium areas.
- Donations
