First of all I would like to say that the lottery in general is evil!! There are so many people spending their grocery money on the lottery instead of feeding their children. That in and of itself leads me to believe that the lottery is just as bad as any form of drug that can be addictive. Second, nothing is free!! (Except airline tickets from SUN!) If you are running a serious business and you are loose enough with your profits to invest it in such a stupid idea as the lottery, I have an idea for you, invest it in ME! The chances of you getting a good ROI are better with me than with the lottery. For goodness sake put the money you would spend on the lottery back into your business! Anyway, that is my take on using profits to "Play the Lottery"! Best Wishes!

executeksearch,
OK, OK, OK. I play the lottery from time to time too. But I have to admit, it`s called the lottery, not retirement investment. Hey, executeksearch, where do I send my dollar to invest in you? When/Where will your winning numbers appear? I invested some in me, there`s no reason I shouldn`t diversify my portfolio with your brand! :)

My husband and I spend a dollar a week for a Powerball ticket. It`s just nice to dream and we obviously don`t go overboard.

iouone2,

Sorry about that soap box sermon on the lottery! I have had a couple friends of mine loose everything by getting wrapped up in dreaming about hitting the big one.  To answer your question about investing in my brand, you can send that dollar per week to me at Ken Schroeder, 123 Money St.  Cash Cow, IA 51555! Just Kidding! For real though do you think that entrepreneurs are more likely to play the lottery than others since they are more prone to day dreaming? Interesting question I think. Best Wishes!

I think people play the lottery because...
1. they see people winning
2. they dream to win
3. only a dollar investment
4. win or loose results within a couple of days

OK. That`s really the reason I play. :)

I`m very split about gambling, seeing both it`s difficulties and it`s benefits (it has really boosted the municipal treasury here and created alot of jobs).  I can`t say I know enough or have enough conviction on the subject one way or another, as I have friends who work in local the industry, and a family member who was hurt by it.

For the most part though, the family experience with lotto was nothing more than a inexpensive hobby.  What`s interesting is everyone knew they weren`t going to win big... what happened at the family business was everyone in the truck would get a daily ticket, and it`d be much more of a family bonding thing than a winning thing (although I`ve won a few times, nothing more than enough for a few extra at the bar... ahhh, those were the days).

To this day, although I don`t work there anymore, I still on occasion will plunk down a dollar.  I like iouone `s list of reasons.  They make alot of sense.
