I`m so upset, I discovered by checking my Web stats visitors that another site, Your Lingerie Party has plagiarized "My Story".  I`m so upset, I can`t believe it, word for word a very personal story that I wrote, as their own and just erased my name and used their names.  Check it out!

I feel so violated!  I sent an email (they have no contact phone number listed) to the theives but any other suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Vicki

Threaten to create a website/links (in their name) devoted to this very subject.

yourlingerieparty.com/stole my story. Or! You can take it as a compliment?

Either way. I love your website

I love the use of the pinup art on your site. Fun!

I was plagiarized a few years back as well. I found a website that had
used my poster designs as their images but they were slightly and very
poorly Photoshopped to look different. I too was shocked and upset (and
oddly flattered). I sent them an email with a bit of legal threat and they
took the images down immediately. It turns out the company had hired a
young web design student to do their site and that guy is the one who
ripped me off. The company actually had no idea he had done so and
was very apologetic. About a month later, that student called me to
apologize as well. He started crying on the phone! I think he learned his
lesson.

People do cheat even though they may feel bad about it. The thing is, I
don`t think they ever think that they will be found out. And when they do,
they usually freak. Hopefully the other site`s owners will freak out and be
forced to write their own story.

"I love beautiful lingerie. When my shipments arrive in those
unremarkable brown boxes, I search the internet for content with which I
can plagiarize."

Just take it one step at a time. See how they respond to what you already
sent.

It is sad that people do this. I would definitely contact these people. If this does not work, I would look up their address on DNS, and send them a letter. This could affect your business if someone does a search, and the wording is the same.

Thanks for all the comments.  I can`t take it as a compliment, I go above and beyond to take care of my customers and provide the best possible service and my reputation is what sets me apart from sites like that, that don`t even provide a phone number.  Great suggestions about the threat though!

I`m glad you like the site and I appreciate the compliments.

In my rant I sent a note to a friend of mine who provided me with this link that may be helpful to some other folks out there to see if your work has been copied.

Thank you friends for all the kind words.  I really needed them.

I had someone copy word for word an article I had written.  After consulting with an attorney, I learned it would be too costly to take a legal route.  One suggestion the attorney had was to try and collect a fee like a royalty fee.

How would you go about collecting royalty fees? Most likely, they may turn their heads, and delete what they took from you. Is there a standard letter everyone can use to mail to people like this?

This is a question for people like Nikole and other web developers about this topic:

Is there a way to embed code in an Abode article so it can`t be copied?

Unfortunately as long as someone can read the text it can be copied. Even if you use an image to represent the text so the text cannot be copied, someone can just transcribe the text.

I`m very sorry to hear about the plagiarism. You should contact their ISP with a threatening letter. This has a much better chance of getting results ... and it`ll be a nasty surprise for those thieves.

I found this basic example copy of a "cease and desist" letter you could send them. Sometimes if it "looks" really legal and stuff, people get nervous and start thinking you`re a large business with deep pockets, just waiting to sue someone.

You could even create an alias email to your own domain account, something like "legal_dept@vickisdrawerslingerie.com" to make it seem even more worrisome. Make up some signature, something like:

Jason Briggs
Attorney
Vicki`s Drawers, Inc.

:-) After all, unless they really come after YOU, how would they know?
