I always recommend hiring a payroll company of some sort.  they make a business out of something is business owners hate doing.  Have you ever considered a PEO aka Professional Employer Organization?

They assume tons of the liability associated with your employer related liabilities in the complicated world of HR, payroll administration, work comp and employee vendors.  Check out this site to learn more about a PEO www.napeo.org

Many times a business owners time is far more valuable to them and frankly don`t have time or the expertise to run a complicated payroll structure.  Not to mention the compliance issues that arise with overtime and fair wage.  If your looking to grow, include researching PEOs and find out if they are a good fit for your company.

One point to take not of, if your going to hire a payroll company, there are many local companies that can do a great job just as paychex or Adp but you`ll find with a local vendor a dramatic increase in personall attention.  You can expect to have a single point of contact rather than a team of people processing your payroll.  I personally like to build relationships with my vendors so there is much more attention dedicated to my account.  I enjoy the small business feeling rather than being just another account for the big guys like ADP and Paychex.  Just a tip.  Explore all options!

Best Health,

While payroll companies can be a great benefit, have you ever considered using a Professional Employer Organization?  Not only can they handle the most complex payroll out there but they also can provide huge discounts on work comp and employee health insurance.  They pool together their clients to offer a big business benefits and insurances not to mention handling all of the HR related funtions of your company too.  New hire reporting, handbooks, policy development, state and federal tax filing and payments.

The PEO even assumes TONS of responsibility too.  Its a great way to reduce your liability and level the playing field with your larger competitors by being able to offer insurances much cheaper than on your own.

Just a different approach to the payroll model...this isn`t my website, this is actually the PEO association`s website for info about the growing industry www.napeo.org

If it is a small payroll, the fees for ADP or Paychex providers may not make sense.  So look at the size of the enterprise and then make your decision.  Just know that at the end of the day you are still responsible to the feds and state authorities for your payroll related taxes.  So don`t assume the service is doing it right, CHECK.

Payroll belong to Human Assets of an organisation. For proper administration and maximise the output there is seperate mechnism and in many cases an integrated payroll management system. Basic detail of all manpower and various statutory compliances are ensured by this system.

You may want to check out QuickBooks or PeachTree.   There are many reviews and comparisons online.

I started a new independent consultant business in Feb 2012 and just went through an exhaustive search.  For my company, QuickBooks Online Plus will work well.  I travel a lot and need to access the accounting system online to enter hours worked, etc.

Best to you!
