I need links to my site, so I was thinking about paying someone to do it for me.  I see people that offer to do this with "no black hat techniques," and on PR3 or PR4 pages and above.  I would gladly pay for this, as I think it`s a missing piece in my quest for improving SEO.

On sites like program freelance sites like scriptlance.com (which I have used for other tasks and had great results thus far) there are guys that seem to specialize in this for cheap.  I would think it`s too good to be true (100+ PR4 links for 100 bucks), but the other work I had done was very good.

Has anyone paid for an army of links like this?  If so, does it work?  Are there things to look out for?  Is there any chance it backfires?

Thanks,
TJ

I was actually researching this today and I read an article that said Google was creating algorithms to search for this kind of linking.  I would hate to pay for the links and have none of them count.  I was searching today for the same reason you were...quality back links are hard to find.  It seems like once you have a high rank/PR, few businesses really want to help anyone out.  If you come across any other methods or find some articles that state that buying the links is safe, please let me know!

I think it`s ok, just make sure you will track those backlinks which they do for you, not be spammed.

What type of website are you running? Commercial, or non-commercial?

Commercial business`s are very hard to build high quality natural back links for, at least a lot more difficult than non-commercial, so it would be a necessary step to achieve higher rankings.

If you are running a non-commercial site then there are certainly better and cheaper methods to gaining high quality backlinks.

Don`t do it. Google is constantly on the lookout for people who try to fraudently circumvent its ranking system, and will penalize you. Put in the necessary time, and hard work and you`ll attract plenty of inbound links the right way - with quality content. You`ll be much better off in the long run.

I agree, it's not a good move.  It will most likely hurt you at some point down the road.  In addition, that actually seems a little steep.  $1 per link?  Unless they're all extremely good links (which I doubt) that's not worth it.

I found that reasonable. You just need to get the visible URL so that you can monitor the links.

Why don't you consider article marketing...where you can get hundreds of backlinks from good authority sites on pages with articles related to your niche for a fee much less than $100.

It depends how much you gonna pay and how much links you will get instead. Links building is good thing but if you don't know how to do it then better it is pay to professional. But you never know who is and who is not. So be careful, rad some information on internet and you will find how easy it is to make some backlinks.
