I have an idea that deals with a growing entertainment trend. I own all the equipment to pull off the event successfully with the exception of a location. I am looking at a couple different local venues to try this.  My fear is that once the idea takes off and becomes profitable is when the venue owner will make the investment in the equipment and kick me to the curb.  How do I protect my ideas and keep this from happening?

Quite an interesting issue. However, if you have something that you can bring to a venue - brand your gift to be yours - be sure to stand out. If you are great at what you do - others will notice. If you keep a positive attitude and work well with others - you most likely will get the support you need. The owner of the venue will love to have you around especially if you are bringing in the crowds that keep his/her business in the limelight.

Just be exceptional at what you do and be sure to let others know what you are doing, when you are doing it, where and post on every social site that you can find. Build your following, professional yet personable and the rest will be hard to duplicate.

Best of luck to you............

It is my belief that the only real way to protect your idea is to get it in writing. Be sure to specifically state your terms in a contract/agreement that is signed by witnessses and notarized. And before you even think about opening your mouth about your idea to your chosen venue be sure that they sign a non-disclosure agreement. You can surf the internet for sample agreement forms which will fit your situtation.

Hope this helps.

I will admit do the paper first and it will lead to a stronger partnership.  A memo of understanding so that things are mapped out will help as well.
