The Patent and Trademark Office on August 14, 2008, announced a 5% fee increase for fiscal year 2009, effective October 2, 2008, to reflect fluctuations in the Consumer Price Index (CPI). 73 Fed. Reg. 47534.
An example of the increase for a non-small entity reveals a new filing fee of $330, a new search fee of $330, and a new examination fee of $220. An increase of 4% was proposed last June (73 Fed. Reg. 31655), but the current notice reports that the CPI was revised and that the final fees reflect that revision with a 5% increase.
