I have a brand new E-commerce coming soon on Amazon Webstore selling jewelry. I want to launch it BIG but I do not have more than $1000 to dedicate to PR.

So far I am planning to have the following strategy:
1 - Send emails to 1000 editors in the jewelry business and tell them to have a press release on s specific day
2 - I will use prweb.com and other free press release to launch it.

Any other ideas on how to use PR to launch a new business?

Hi ABC1111,

Check out our "7 Steps to PR Success" on this site at http://www.startupnation.com/steps/77/steps-successful-public-relations.htm.

Instead of sending out so many e-mails, make a targeted list of a few media members with a specific pitch for each.

Also, you may want to check out my new book, "Simple Publicity - How to boost sales, awareness and credibility fast without spending a lot of money" on Amazon.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

You can also use social networks for this purpose.

Successful PR is all about reaching the right audience with a message that is appropriate and meaningful to them. Without knowing your target audience the rest of your PR actions will be useless.

So, so true Gary! And many people do not want to spend the time and effort to research the appropriate media members and create a specific message for each. This is the key to PR success!

Most importantly, you need the right content for the targeted people. I think you can also use Facebook, Twitter, blogs to promote.

The expression "You are known by the company you keep" had its roots somewhere.

Ensuring that the quality of the sources you choose to associate your business with complements the image you want to project is important - in particular over the long term. Content in the online space is available far beyond most of my clients ever envisioned it would be.

Is your jewelry created from precious or semi-precious stones? What makes your designs and offerings different from all the others so widely available?

There are two elements that should always be considered by people evaluating issuing press releases that can directly impact story pick-up:

- Can you make the press release timely? Tie it into a season or date? Then you provide a stronger call to action, to consider your press release sooner rather than three years for now.

- Are you including a media item, such as a photo or video? People are visual creatures; when you provide the media with what they need to publish a story, you attract them by virtue of the photo because you've provided what is needed to do their job.

Regards,

Melanie
