I have a small consulting business with a staff of 18.  I am wondering if anyone here is outsourcing any of their HR, Accounting, and Business Management operations to India.  If so what functions?  What success are you having?  Are you experiencing any cost savings versus outsourcing here in the states? And do you have any companies or contacts you could refer?

Great question Jason... I`ve been looking for the same information. I`ve been considering outsourcing my telemarketing and scheduling to India; I also now have a new product, which I`m in the process of patenting, etc...so, manufacturing is another consideration but I have been somewhat skeptical about it with all the scams you hear about from other countries. I would love to hear from someone who has already been down this road before.

It is also sometimes very difficult to understand foreigners with strong accents. How are you handling communications considering language barriers? .

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gina

Hello Thomas and Gina,

Oursourcing can bring significant cost benefits while helping you focus on core business. However these days outsourcing has risen in costs and is not as cheap as it used to be. That has come at the expense of  increase in quality from the companies providing outsourcing services which is a benefit for companies looking to outsource.

India leads in outsourcing for services mainly due to the english speaking talent pool whereas China leads in outsourcing for manufacturing. So for Gina, China might be a viable option if you`re looking to outsource manufacturing of new product. Search in Alibaba.com for some reliable reputed manufacturers. (look for gold certified manufacturers)

For Jason, you might want to consider outsourcing to India. Most of the companies here outsource their IT Services to India which is what India is best at. You save money not having to maintain a staff person here while a company can do this for probably half the cost or less.

Although India leads in IT services outsourcing, other services like BPO outsourcing, HR , accounting etc are also done in India on a large scale again due to the availablity of talent pool and english speaking talent readily available.

I hope this helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions.

Thomas.

Pros:
1. Cut costs while still getting the right quality of work assuming that you have a good service provider.
2. Save your time since someone else will be doing the job for you.

Cons:
1. Very risky as it might turn out as a failure in your business which can lead to loss
2. If you fail, you will really fail.

2 things to consider to overcome the common problems in outsourcing:
1. Outsource the right activities - if it's something that will directly impact your customers, then think twice. Make sure you get the right service providers (proceed to no. 2 on how to get the right service providers) if you outsource such activities.
2. Get the right help - you should get have service providers that are reliable and trustworthy. You know you will be monitoring them at a distance so trust is really a factor. Communication is also another thing to consider--both parties should agree with the terms and agreements. Also, to get the right service providers, take time to interview them, search for feedback of previous employers, previous experiences, ratings, etc.

* Improved Business Focus (now we can focus on our core business activities by outsourcing all activities that are not critical for our business)

* Reduce Production and Operating Costs (by outsourcing our production overseas we will cut our operating costs by more than 30%)

It Outsorcing is certainly going to get affected by this slowdown. Today due to this slump the growth plans of most of the companies has bone down , and we are facing decrease in business by almost 50%.

the real scenarion is very bad , lets hope some thing new emerges as its very well said

“necessity is the mother of invention”
