I really want to have full control over the site, so I may just take several courses in website design. I really want to be able to make all the changes myself.

Katherine,
Not a bad idea in general to learn and have some experience with web design.
Though it`s somewhat like saying "I`ll learn engineering so I can build my own car from scratch, not buy it from a dealer, `cause this way I`ll know what`s inside and I could modify it at any time".
