While I realize that opening a bar isn`t much of a startup business, I hope some folks on here have something more to offer.

Maybe someone will stumble across this, and share their experiences.

Aimee..
I see that you are in the Cinci. area. I live in Covington, Ky and am looking into opening a local bar / pub in the neighborhood.
Thought I would say hi, intriduce myself (a little) and maybe pick your (or your mothers) brain a little as I venture into this.

Thanks and best of luck

Andrew,

I know a lot of these post were in 2007.  How far are you now with starting your bar?  Have you stuck with it or given up?  I am starting out like you....were.  I have about a million questions and I really want to start this.  I have wanted to do this for quiet some time.  It is a passion of being successful I guess.  I have been reading your questions and story....I am inspired so far and hope that I can succeed.  Thanks again and I hope that I hear back to see if you have this bar up...maybe you can help me get started.  Thanks in advance...

Hello Duane and Juan!

That sounds like a good plan!  Bars, like liquor stores, are one of the few business that grow if in slower economic times.  What kind of bar are you thinking of opening? Where are you located?  I would love to hear more about it and about your ideas!

I specialize in small business start up and expansion so if you are looking for advice or need someone to bounce ideas off of I would be happy to help!

I see bars every where but there is still some room to be in this business if you are unique enough. My close friends owns a hotel and a bar next to it. I was spending time with them and knowing enough to be able to share a little of what I learned. First few months could be the worst time, so you might need to prepare for that before it gets picked up. Make sure you have enough money to go on for a while without making money for a few months.

After a year, I was told some months income from the bar exceeded what they got from the hotel. The hotel is not that big but a decent size. You will probably make most money from drink so plan ahead on your inventory system. People get mad when your drink are out off stock and some never return. People talk, so make sure you really impress them well. Also make sure you have a good accounting system and ways to track on every single penny coming in from a bar. Money gets lost if you don't. That what happened to them but they learned from experience and are well off now. Good luck.
