I have been asked by a customer if I would be interested in
adding online parties to my website..Help. I have no idea
where to start with this and if it`s even a good idea.
Does anyone have any input on this for me??
Cheers
Sarah

What is online parties? Is it nothing more than a forum or chat line? Go into more detail about what you are asking.

An online party would be inplace of a home party. ie
Tupperware, Southern Living style party. One person would be
the hostess and invite her friends to shop online, however I
don`t know if i would need a chat room for this or just
promotional codes that would be accepted at check out. My
business is not a Direct Sales Style owned by a large
corporation like the afore mentioned companies. So I am not
sure how to go about puting this in place and am looking for
input..

You could go about it either way.  I am not sure how successful either way would be.  There are pros and cons of both methods though, and I guess the best way is to list them out and make a decision from there.

If you have a chat, it might seem a little too geeky for most people, but without the chat it will probably not seem like much of a "party" at all.  The promo codes would probably seem too impersonal and might not work out well.

I am a developer if you have any questions about how to do it on the technical side with your ecommerce engine.

Why don`t you set up like a MLM. You give each person a code. This code goes to the person page, and when someone buys, you give the code holder future discounts or a commission. This way, you could do some viral marketing, and get more people involve in your parties.

Sarah

This could be done with a forum type software.

Advise people to become members and then post party details when you have enough members in any area. You could have online video presentations for features products. You could link to a Pay pal or e Commerce.

You can purchase or lease base forum software but would possibly need a webmaster/programer to do minor modifications.

Thanks to everyone who gave me feedback. I have discussed
this with my webdesigner. I am going ahead with custom
coupon codes for each part hostess. They will receive a $10 gift
certificate after the party when they invite 10 guests. Then they
will receive an additional 10% on each guest purchase before
tax and Shipping and handling charges. Hostesses will be
offered an exclusive hostess special and guests will be offered
a discount on certain items during the duration of the online
party. An easy way to host a party with out the hassle!
