advice that i would give is to make sure to put your wallet in your front pocket and not to wander off away from the crowded streets. New Orleans is known for people getting mugged. its also a very high crime area. also there is a website i do not know the name of it, (maybe a search engine) but it has people offering rooms in their homes around the world to rent out instead of a hotel. You can visit plantations and do ghost tours or cemetary tours. all of which you will find brochures in every hotel. also the wax museum is very interesting, it has the history of the civil war and Louisiana.

From my personal experience, I can only say that if you are planning for holidays in vacation period, don't take chances and book your room in your favorite hotel.
