My company is one person operated home based business. I don’t need any employees for now. I try to build great relationship with customers. I want my customers to know that all my services are the highest quality. I think everything is important, even little things, invoice design, business card design, they way you contact customers etc. I’m the only person in Computer Clue. Every time I speak with customers or write letters I start thinking if I’m suppose to use singular or plural. The same thing is with brochures and website. Am I suppose to use “why me” or “why us”, “about me” or “about us”? I’m the only person so I’m suppose to use singular but maybe that would look better and more professional if I use plural. “Us” sounds better and it makes company looks bigger. In last 2 years, I asked myself many times, which one is better…..I will really appreciate all advices.

Tomasz,

Great question!

I use the term US because I`m not alone on
my path with my business. So I`m including my
spiritual provider. When I need extraordinary
insight, it`s He who I call as my partner.

The US does provide you the appeal and it`s
preceived as being a business rather than a
"mom & pop" company. Some people are
scratchy on mom & pops.

When you`re face to face you can present the
-I- part of the company because you are the
CEO.

I hope you`ve found value in what I`ve shared.

Continue to make this the best day ever!

Won`t Be Denied!

It`s common practice to use the "editorial `We`" when speaking professionally from the perspective of a business, written communication, and other similar conditions.

There`s also the royal "we," but you`d have to be a king or queen, or the Pope, in order to use that legitimately. :-)

I liked your site, Thomas.  But iI see it is, for a  local market, because you offer "at their location service".  Which is wonderful!  Something I think is a great service!  Someone you can trust, and knows what they`re doing.

Just build that trust and confidence for your customers.

Normaly I would think, you would use the words "us" and "we" to sound like a larger company, But your type of service, it`s nice to know someone you can personally deal with.

Janie,
I`m glad you like my website, but I have to spend little more time and work on it. That`s right, I provide computer services to local market. I`m in the process of tr-fold brochure design. Now it`s time when decision has to be made. I or We. It still bothers me. As LifeTranscender said before I don`t want to be seen as "mom  & pop" company.

Using "we" isn`t about appearing to be a large company. It`s standard English, and goes along with the Chicago Manual of Style, used for pretty much all decisions involving grammar.

That`s true.  So your message should  portray your services well, so you don`t sound like,... "just another company...,of people"

I don`t think you have to be Mom and Pop, you can be Specialized.

Your message to your customers, whether you`re 1 person, the owner, or the head of a large company:
We work hard to make sure that your experience with us is enjoyable and up to your satisfaction. We are committed to the satisfaction of all of our customers.

Thank you, all of you.

I just designed front page of tri-fold brochure I was talking about. Please take a look and feel free to tell me what you think. Maybe you`ll even find some errors.
