Just when I thought I was no longer going to invent anything, I got bit by that old bug again! Today I was driving home from the post office and spotted a pickup truck. I instantly had an idea for an accessory. I came home and said "Honey, I may have invented something again" and he was like "Oh boy, here we go." But I explained it to him and he actually thought it was a decent idea. Of course, when you have an idea like that there`s like a 95% chance it`s been done. I did a quick web search and a quick patent search and I can`t find it! I`ll keep looking and I know, chances are, it`s out there - but sometimes it isn`t!

Anyway, I can`t believe I`m thinking about pursuing this AGAIN. I`m excited but I also know how much work it is, and it can be expensive of course. I`m not sure I`m up for it right now. We`ll see.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

Hey Chris,
Maybe you should hire me as the leg work person for a very small share in the profits, if it all goes through. Then you could just point in the directions and provide the skill.

Partners?

My company specializes in these types of situations. When a client provides an idea/concept/product, we do all the research necessary to take that idea/concept/product to market. (Providing, of course, that it is original and does not infringe on any copyrights, etc)

If the project is deemed viable, the client is notified, and recieves a welcome packet with any contracts, documentation, or forms required for the concept to become a business, or be put into production. If production is needed, we can research the cost, suppliers, and will cover marketing and sales.

We do the rest, including filing in their respective state (or a Nevada/Delaware corporation/LLC). Following the conception of the business, the client is provided any help necessary throughout the first 4 years (limits negotiable).

Thanks guys! I`m still debating if it`s worth pursuing or not. My other patents were for a hair accessory and a way of making custom rubber-type stamps for crafting purposes. Inventing a pickup truck accessory is a little out of my realm, so I need to do some research on how profitable something like this could be - if at all. I mean, maybe the world is saturated with truck stuff. I don`t know. I had a friend of mine sign an NDA and I showed him a sketch, and he thought it was a great idea. I haven`t had time to really research it. I honestly don`t see how this couldn`t have been invented - but then again my other inventions seemed obvious to me, yet I got patents on them both.

As for leg work and marketing/development etc.- I don`t know. I already know how to draft patent applications. I drafted my own before, as well as drew my own drawings and drafted my claims. (I had them all checked over by 2 patent attorneys.) When my examiners rejected certain things, I drove down to Crystal City and met with my examiners and got them to pass. I also marketed my inventions to companies pretty successfully and licensed one and although it got dropped due to their incompetence, I made some money off of the holding fee which enabled us to put a down payment on our home. So, I already know how to do quite a bit of that stuff. I even used to speak at inventor group meetings and flew from NH to Tulsa for an inventor`s summit. I was really into it back then. It`s been a while of course. I was in my mid-twenties when I was doing all of that. I`m now in my mid-30`s with 2 kids and a business. I`m not sure I can handle another invention with everything going on in my life. I guess I`ll keep searching for it and if I don`t find it then I`ll figure out what I want to do.

Thanks everyone!
Chris

Well then, you really have done alot of inventing. Many of my `ideas` are business-related. I am good at coming up with concepts that haven`t been done before, or ways to improve upon an older idea. I like your attitude when it comes to ideas being turned down, etc... You don`t take no for an answer. I`m still learning how to take that approach when rejection comes from the top (mentors, professionals). Well, good luck on your invention, and keep us posted if it is a success. BTW, I drive a pickup truck, so I may end up being a customer in the long haul ;-)

Stephane....That`s true. An inventor can`t stop. (Doesn`t want to stop!)

I refuse
