Has anyone successfully launched an offline community from the online Startup Nation community? I am interested in building a local network of entrepreneurs here in Massachusetts and would love to hear how others have successfully built an offline network.

Best,

Mike

Hi Mike:  I read a story in business week about a man who was gathering entrepreneurs for a face2face network.  I contacted him and now I organize the Chicago chapter of his network.  I actually have two groups of entrepreneurs meeting here in Chicago.  One is an entrepreneur group and I organize that group through meetup.com and the other is a bootstrapping entrepreneur group which operates using specific models and has more strict guidelines.  The second group is part of the nationwide network.  Are you a self-funded bootstrapper?  If so, flip me an email and I`ll give you the network contact.  I believe Massachusetts may be open and looking for a leader.

To answer your first question.....

Yes, some of the members in my groups were people I met through StartUpNation.

Rich,

It seems to me that Startup Nation can best support such an initiative by providing a framework by which a group of entrepreneurs can organize effectively. In similar fashion to the 10 steps, you could use your platform to publish best practices. From there I would imagine you may want to tap champions for local chapters and work with them to make sure there is some consistency in the value an entrepreneur receives from each local chapter associated with the Startup Nation brand.

I would be more than happy to work with you to develop the idea further.

Best,

Mike

I love this idea!  I would be interested in kicking one off in Washtenaw County/Southeastern Michigan.

Just a list on SuN that was broken down into states then county where people could post if they are interested would help.

I am wanting to meet entrepreneurs in Pittsburgh, PA and finding it hard to do. I get lots of sales pitches to come listen to someone talk about their product for a mere $25-$75 registration fee. But, I`m having trouble connecting with serious aspiring entrepreneurs in the area at a relaxed just come and talk type meeting.
