OK hit-to-sale ratio?

Over the last 3 months we have experienced a hit-to-sale ratio of 50:1, i.e. 50 unique hits result in 1 confirmed sale. Is this OK, within the norm? Anything we can do to improve the site?

I think the average, or a good average anyway, is 1-3%.

I heard somewhere that 2%-5% was the average.

So if you`re getting 1 sale for every 20 hits, you`re doing fantastic.
