Yesterday I visited the Fancy Food Show in New York as a guest. Food-related businesses come to this show to display their products and only the trade can buy from them wholesale.

Many countries were represented and for the most part each country had a government representative giving some kind of support.

I noticed that my home country had only a handful of businesses and no supporting institution.

So it hit me: what if I created the necessary structure in the US to facilitate these companies to attend the trade shows? I like the idea because there are so many trade shows for so many different lines of business. That would be a year-round job.

But my question is: can I be a non-profit organization which focus is to provide the necessary support for the companies who want to attend these trade shows as vendors?
And how does a non-profit make money (how do I get paid a salary)?

Any input is appreciated.
