Noob to marketing ...PR Confusion

I'm all confused on how to go about writing a PR campaign.  Is it better to do a PR campaign or to just write a bunch of articles and submit them to article directories?

Right now my partner has been writing articles, and trying to get writers to post unique articles on our site. But that is just to drive visitors to our site.

The core of our site is to get reviews (and have users read reviews) of OBGYN's.

So I'm kind of confused on how to market/do a PR campaign for my business.

Any thoughts on how to approach this would be welcomed.

An article for PR is totally different from articles that you use for article marketing (submitting to article directories). The purpose of the PR article is to get the attention of the media whereas articles for article marketing is to build links and traffic as your content are being spread all over the web.


It is good if you are able to do both but unless your site is coming up with an interesting twist of events that can generate an interesting spike of buzz, don't waste too much time with writing PR articles as the media and news channels will not pick it up anyway.

Try thinking about how you can "spin" your ideas so that they aren't just generic, but offer a unique hook.

Tying it to a cause, event, or holiday can work. Not sure how you might in your line of business off the top of my head.

You might look into social media and making yourself available on forums where potential readers might be too.

Eric,

Do you already have reviews on your site?  You may have to "prime the pump" in order to add value to your site initially.  That may mean you have people you know start rating.  You may be able to get other reviews from different sources to get the site going too.

The bottom line is that if people go over to your site and there aren't any reviews, I'm thinking they're probably not going to stick around for long.
