Hmm...so i have a charity domain to get a trademark for. It`s a combination of charities under one site representing a certain category. Do i need to develope the site first or can i start it from home with paper. Just how do i start and maintain my charity non-profit before i get trademark and publish a site. I looked into some info but being that this thread is for any and all info and questions to be asked, maybe we could start with the basics? Post anything that might be helpful. The goal here is to not leave any question unanswered. Any question of non-profit is a good question. Thanx.

If your thinking about starting a non-profit then I would recommend reading:

1.) "Managing The Non-Profit Organization: Principals and Practices" by Peter Drucker.

2.) Fundraising for Non-Profits: How To Build a Community Partnership by P. Burke Keegan

Plus there is a wealth of information on the National Council of Non Profit Associations: http://www.ncna.org/

I went to NCNA. They have what most sites have, that you first understand the basics and within the stucture of obvious know how. Lot`s of links and business know how if you already know how. So, i did what i continue to do here at StartUp and i asked for step by step instructions for beginners. The following e-mail was sent to ncna@ncna.org .
NCNA,
step by step with a domain name and idea, how do i start a non profit. beginner info needed on your site and or please direct me to online (how to) links. question of when to get a trademark. now, with 36 months worth of extension? help me to understand basics of what is required from idea to community wide participation. i posted a thread in StartUp Nation.com and received your site as starter. don`t see an easy step by step process of creating a non-profit. my focus is charity for children, first as website and also for certain youth projects. help? anyone can get this idea trademarked and do it before me. it ties in with already established charities and will benefit by being one place for EuroAmerican efforts to encourage the sunstaining development and quality of life for all children. ~daniel~ 9/5/6
Granted, we have to do research. I`m tracking down the best sites that explain in simple points and what`s 1st. whats` 2nd. It`s a matter of non-profit made simple, so quick access to startup information will mean we are quick to establish yet another non-profit to better society. P.S. If anyone wishes to combine efforts in reaching the goal of launching or linking non-profits together...so do I.

Here`s what i needed. Any Online Law Library. Register at LegalZoom and visit this link: http://www.legalzoom.com/law_library/non-profit/Checklist-fo r-New-Non-Profit-Corporations.html  . Checklist. And provided you can do all checklist requirements, there is no reason to wait on seeing if trademark is available and most important the possibility of it being upheld or rejected. My opinion. Because if the USPTO denies, then your particular vision may be in jeopardy. I have purchased specific domains, with specific name for exact vision...so, October, if i can work out how long i can wait to get site up. My idea is for to click on logo from all my sites. We`ll see...now that I`m more aware of what it`s all about. Here is link for grounds for refusal of trademark: http://www.legalzoom.com/law_library/trademarks/refusal.html

If you are able to design and set  up your website, then you can.  I have seen some non-profit websites that were designed with the standard Microsoft FrontPage templates.  They don`t look as professional though.  Your second option could be to set up a website that tells people who you are and allows them to make donations using SiteBuilder.  Many web hosting companies offer this option with their hosting plans.  My favorite one is http://www.3essentials.com (go to their Window`s hosting plans) where for the cheapest plan of $48 per year you can get a lot of memory and great SiteBuilder templates.  It is VERY easy to use and walks you through everything (no programming required).  You can purchase a domain name for about $7.95 from A-Plus or GoDaddy.  That is a total of $56 per year.  Not bad (I used to pay $21.99 per month ($263.88 per year) for a basic hosting plan that was really restrictive before I got wise).  Good luck and thanks for starting the thread!

There`s an answer then, Earthman. I`ve been away at the MosaicProject* with ideas.

Now we have a free E-book! So, with all of that great info... Let`s do excerpts that have helped us, And continue to answer any newcomer questions.

BluePanther: 1and1 = 2.24 with 5.99 Domains. Before "I" got smart, it was GoDaddy, and once I even bought at Yahoo. Now, just so you know, If you need your domain in two minutes, still buy GoDaddy. 1and1.com takes 24hr. to process. But if you do get it quick, you can transfer to 1and1 for two hosts @3.74 or one @2.24. And yes, depending on your growth, SiteCreators and any Server at any good host company will suffice. Upgrade as you grow...always.
