I don`t really blog, even though I know I should.  I have trouble thinking of what to write.  So I use our blog for announcements.  A fellow sunner, Nikole came up with some great content for me, by cooking up a bean recipe.  She says they`e the best beans she ever had, so I thought I`d share it.  Thanks Nikole!

Hi, Janie,

How are you?

Blogging is definitely a great way to drive search engines to your site, but you have to provide information that is of interest to people.  Consider it like writing a brief news article like journalists have done for you.  The reason they mention your business is because they believe it will be of interest to their readers.  Think like that and you`ll have no problem coming up with posts that will even encourage purchase.  I know you have a lot of good stuff to talk about so put emphasis on it, evolve it with additional information, newsworthy links and more to generate action and purchase.

Hope you are well!
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer!!

Okay, I`m going to try to think right. :) I have a second recipe now and would like to send a newsletter to my customers about it. About blogging, did you mean just by simply putting the recipe up, it`s not interesting, I need to write about it more?  It`s jerky news, not a blog. :)

I know when we talked before you mentioned jerky in recipes, and it`s something I had always thought about. I decided to finally start working on it. Now, I need to really do something with it..... to make something of it, right?

Janie, found this old post and I`m kind of in the same boat as you are. Everyone keeps telling me I need to have a blog on our site, but honestly, I`m scared that I won`t always have something to say, or at least that is interesting and I don`t know that I can keep it up. I sometimes have weeks where I have no free time, even to do something if I wanted to.

Any ideas you (or anyone else) can share that might help me with handling this?

I don`t know Pam, I really think blogs might be more beneficial to other businesses, especially service type.  You could blog about new products if you`re making them.  We don`t have new products that often.  Recipes with your dips are another great idea.  I  ended the jerky, in recipe ideas.  People just like to eat good jerky, if that`s there thing, not really make it into something, as needed in a recipe so it`s a little different.  Jennifer has always tried to guide me into the health benefits, but again, it`s a good path to take, but I`m still back to people that just like good jerky. Yes, ours is healthier than many. but I think the majority are not as interested in that, as they just love the good flavor, good product.    They are eating meat, and realize there is sodium in it.  Our product has no MSG or preservatives, and less sodium than most.  Those are pluses for us.  But, I still say they just like the flavor, and that we use top round, makes a difference, but nothing to.blog about.  Our, so called blog is jerky news, but I can`t even keep up with that. I just love it when customers post reviews.  Do you have reviews on your site?

We have lots of recipes and testimonials. I know what you mean, if I did a blog it would probably have to be about daily goings on. I am going to give it some thought, maybe we will try it, I keep getting pushed to do it.

You can use blogs in various ways... to announce, to inform, to converse (with customers/ potential customers), to entertain, or pass on news/information from other sources.

The subject matter can also variety from very specific to your business to general information on a wide variety of topics.

How you use your blog depends on you and your target audience... and your purpose (to build a relationship, to get new customers, etc).

An important benefit of a blog is it`s affect on search results... and bringing traffic to your site. Blogs can be a way to "notify" the world / and search engines that you have something to say. In general terms, when you post a blog entry... your blog sends a message to blog search engine that a new item has been added. This is different than changing text on your website, where you have to wait to search bots to read your site for new content (reactive)... a blog can actually "push" your new post out to the search engine (proactive).

So be proactive and blog!
