 Hello All,

I`m new to posting on forums, blogging, etc.

I am recently out of the mortgage industry; luckily by my own choice and not due to the massive lay-offs that are plaguing the nation.

I decided to throw in the towel on my 9-5, after being introduced to a home-based business opp that would allow me to replace the income i was making previously, while working from home and allowing me to spend time with my son.

I am good at networking in person, etc. but not sure the best route online. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Best advise I can give you right now is to read, read and read. There is alot of information here on the web site. Alot of good podcast to listen to, alot of good people to talk to in the forums. Remember it will take some time to learn everything so don`t get frustrated.

I`m not exactly sure what you are asking for?  Advice on how to network on-line?  If that`s the question, congratulations you`re doing it right now.

You need to specify what you`re most interested in as a first step.  My favorite professional networking site is LinkedIn.  On the personal side, I`m interested in bass fishing in Southwest PA (wow that`s pretty narrow), and there`s a site specifically for that.

What line of business are you in - that may help in narrowing down the plethora of choices out there.  You can go crazy trying to do too much.

Hi Megan, welcome to Startup Nation (SuN) :-)

The thing most people don`t really understand is that interacting with other people involves both sales and entertainment. Especially in things like "networking," an amazingly over-used word.

What you might want to look into would be some creative writing courses at a local community college, and perhaps some marketing courses. Another thing might be a local Toastmasters chapter, where you`ll get lots of help and support in terms of public speaking.

You could join an amateur acting group, and have some fun being on stage. :-) It`s all about *presenting yourself* in a particular fashion, whatever way you`d like to be seen.

Eric has another major point, that simply browsing through blogs and forums will give you all sorts of ideas and examples of online communication. The key is text! Learn how to say what you want to say by using written words. Then learn how to modify what you want to say through techniques of implication, emoticons, and so forth.
