I`ve been lurking for a while and have been impressed by the amount of activity on the site.

I currently own a mortgage business but am looking to possibly move in another direction down the road. I am looking to this board to inspire some potential ideas.

The current idea I am working on is buying/opening a hometown diner.

Hi there, Wreck :-) Hope that screenID isn`t indicative of your life in general?

One idea I`ve had for a long time, since I love to eat and to cook, is something along the lines of "Mom`s Place." It would offer communal seating, at long trestle tables. The menu would be 1 thing---dinner. Every Thursday, maybe, would be "Leftovers." That`d be whatever was left from the other six days.

People could call during the day and ask, "What`s for dinner?" They`d be told the menu for that night. They also could swing buy and pick up dinner as "take-out" for the family or only themselves. Overhead would be easier, what with only 1 dinner on the menu.

Then there`d be the collateral marketing, with a greeter at the door making sure you wash your hands before sitting down, wipe your shoes on the mat, and so forth. :-D

Cool idea. You could also use a website to post a running menu for the next two weeks etc..

What companies` do you own/run currently Craig? From reading your other posts you def. have plenty of good ideas.

My two primary interests right now are writing, and a signal flag banner company I`m helping my friend Kathy build. We have another thread going, with free business ideas, mostly because just about everyone who`s into being an entrepreneur spins off ideas all the time. Same thing with the "Mom`s Place." It`s a great idea, but I have no interest in developing myself. Since you`re looking at a diner type of thing, you could go with that...or some other idea. :-) The problem isn`t ideas, it`s putting them into existence, right?

Have a survey first if it`s okay to open a diner in your area, make you consider ups nd downs, its not all great in business by the way.. just leave something for the rainy season..
