Welcome, and thanks for reading my post. So, as mentioned, we are a very new tech startup, located in the DC/NoVa area, and are looking for some people to become part of our community and website (a free site - no payments, solicitations, etc).
What we are all about: evaluation, decision making, and advice. Our site attempts to address the gap in social decision making and evaluation (think endless emails back and forth or posts/responses in a forum) and make things more efficient and easy for our users to make good decisions and evaluate ideas. The site follows the Web 2.0/user generated content/social networking formula, but is not the same or meant to compete with Facebook, MySpace, etc.
So now you may be asking, another website? Why would I want to sign up? What problems do they solve? Ask yourself this:
Do you like to have discussions/arguments about interesting topics (life, society, politics, sports, really anything)? Are you frustrated by how this translates on the web (trolls, useless posts, endless threads)?
Do you like to help people who post questions in forums online? Or do you post questions yourself?
Do you like to give advice (and know/think you're good at it)?
Do you have an analytical mind and like to evaluate things?
Do you wish there was a better way to get help with decisions from friends, family, co-workers, etc on an important subject or decision in your life?
Are you interested in tech startups and the community/culture around them?
Do you want to meet some new people and hopefully make some friends?
These are just some things that might generate interest in our site. If none of the questions seem to fit you, join anyway and there might be free pizza at some point (legal disclaimer: there might not be free pizza).
Understandably, you probably want to know a bit more about us.....we have been developing this concept for the past year, and are about ready to launch a private beta after completing an alpha with close friends. The team consists of two founders, one with a tech background (me) and the other a business/investment banking background (a decent guy despite going to Princeton). We also have an early stage investor and partnered with a law firm and development shop to get us where we are today.
I'm not going to post the url or specifics of our site, only because we haven't launched the beta yet and want to protect our idea, but if you follow up on this post, you will get more information as we'd like to find folks who will be active as we launch the beta. I will say the site is very easy to use, does not take a lot of time to submit content or participate, and can definitely be fun and creative.
Our goal right now is to build a community and grow our user base. There are no fees or anything of the kind on the site, and you will not be bombarded with unsolicited emails, ads, etc. Ideally, we would like to get a minimum of 10-15 'power users' to form the core of our community during our beta period. Also, as early beta users, you will have a direct line to the site creator, me, and thus you will help shape how the site evolves and what it offers. Our goal is to be very transparent and open about what we are working on and focus on user feedback and ideas.
Ok, I think that sums it up...hopefully, this has peaked your interest. Keep in mind you don't have to be from the DC area, we welcome all users. Reply to this post if you want to participate and there will be a follow up email in a few days.
Thx for reading, hope to hear from you!
