Hi all, new guy here!

My name is Dave (devildave) from Westminster, Colorado (a suburb between Denver and Boulder).

For the last few years I have been thinking about starting my own business, but it’s hard to make that jump when you have a good full time job.

Well now it looks like the company I work for may be having layoffs between now and the end of the year and it looks like I have a 50/50 chance of staying or getting the axe.  I’m not that concerned about being let go, my wife has a good job and we don’t have any kids.

However, I’m thinking that now may be a good time to make the jump and try to do my own thing.

I actually have a business plan that I wrote about 8 months ago along with market research, but I still have many questions. I am looking forward to getting on the forums here to help get the ball rolling!

Dave

Devil Dave...

Welcome to SuN.  You`ll find a lot of great resources here.  Post your questions and you`ll get all sorts of advice.  What`s your business idea, or if you don`t want to get too detailed, what industry?

By the way, I`m in Boulder.  There are also some good local entrepreneurial groups to get the mind inspired.

The business will be a Powder Coating shop.  For those of you that don’t know what that is, Google "powder coating". Basically, it is a way of painting (industrial, commercial, automotive) items by using a colored power, that, when heated flows to a nice durable finish.  There are no VOC’s or flammable chemicals that you would find with liquid paint.  BBQ grilles, patio furniture, outdoor lighting fixtures, etc, are most likely powder coated.

There are about 24 coaters in the entire state of Colorado, 10 of which are located 50+ miles from where I will be located.

Cool, I did some research on powder coating one time for a prototype product I was working on a few years back.  We didn`t powder coat for various reasons but I actually preferred it as an alternative to paint.  If I ever need it again, I now know someone local.
