I just quit my day job to go into business. I do not like therapy and my doctorate is in I/O (Industrial and organizational psychology). I am more inclined to business and executive side of coaching. I like the business world much better having spent most of my career there. I admire folks going on to get more education and do feel for you at the ABD stage that was the hardest part of my doctorate and thankful it is over.

Yes, I am getting the kids out of my head it is hard, as you really get involved. I got out of mental health before I needed it and sure do not miss it.

Maybe you could do seminars on the psychology of e-commerce or small business and what is takes to succeed. I also know of a coach (think gamecocks) who wants to develop an instrument that will help determine if a high school student has what it takes to succeed as a student athlete. I bet there would be money in that.

God luck and drink plenty of water. It was 104 in Columbia today and I know it is aweful at the coast.

Thanks and the same to you. I do have a breeze off the ocean and that sure helps. I am considering the thought on Life Coaching as there is a need along with the organizational stuff.

How far are you into your dissertation? You will do great I know.

I have the first 3 chapters and am waiting for the data from the State Department of Education. They move about as fast as turtles through peanut butter! I am investigating the affects of scheduling (A/B day, 4X4, traditional) on student achievement. In my job I see that a lot of special ed. students who do not do well in block scheduling.

Do you think there would be a need for an educational consultant that would go into the homes and help families with organizational skills as far as study zones, materials, how to set up educational expectations? I have thought about that a lot.

thank you for you kind words! Nanci

Nanci,

Not sure about educational consultant thing. Here in the Low Country we have such in our local school boards. Maybe not quite the offerings you are thinking of. Could you explain alittle more in detail before I wipe out your dream.

Also, sorry for getting back so late, but have been out for awhile.

I don`t want to work with schools, I want to work with families. Help them set schedules, organize areas for study, materials etc. Helping kids get ready for school by organizing clothes, money, lunches etc. Not so much the actual educational stuff but the behavioral stuff that makes it hard for parents. I was also thinking about helping students organize bookbags, lockers, etc to make it more effecient. Of course I could only give them the needed skills but they would have to follow it. Magazines have all these articles onhow to do this but when you are overwhelmed anyway, it is hard to set it up. I want to be able to go in and set it up for them. What do you think of that idea?

Nanci, I think it is worth a try. Was just thinking about my youngest daughter getting her 3 children ready. Some of the behavioral stuff she needed more than the kids. Today was the first day of school for her baby boy who is 4. She could have used your services.

GO FOR IT !!!
